Match Report: Norwich City 1-3 Chelsea, Willian’s first Chelsea goal ensures vital three points.

Hazard and Ivanovic with Mourinho

Willian’s first Chelsea goal ensured a vital three points for the blues at Carrow Road.
Chelsea had it all wrapped up moments later when another of Mourinho’s substitutes, Willian, struck to make it 3-1 with a superb curling effort into the top corner marking his first goal since his summer move from Anzhi Makhachkala. The win took Chelsea into third place ahead of Tottenham’s clash with West Ham.

Norwich vs CFC starting 11

Chelsea started the game with a fast tempo which saw them score and had a penalty claim turned down the opening 5 minutes of the game.
Demba Ba appeared to have been brought down in the Norwich box by Sebastian Bassong, however Mr Swarbrick waved away the Chelsea protest.
A minute later Chelsea were ahead courtsey of Oscar. Expertly Demba Ba controlled a long floated ball then teed Oscar who calmly struck home with the outside of his boot. 1-0 Chelsea
Ten minutes later Chelsea nearly doubled their advantage. Ba managed to break into space and shot across his body, Ruddy was forced into making a smart save.
Good link up play by Snodgrass and Van Wolfswinkel resulted on a cross which was diverted goalwards by both Luiz and Howson, Cech was on hand to save.
Just moments before half time David Luiz nearly scored a bizarre goal. From the Centre circle the brazilian decided to shoot the ball towards the goal, Ruddy was scrambling but luckily for him the ball went over the bar. 1-0 Ht
Moments after the start of the second half Ramires attacked down the left channel and crossed low for Ba. However his delicate flick flashed across the face of goal and went out for a goal kick.
After a period of Norwich dominance they finally broke Chelsea’s defence and equalised through Pilkington. Van Wolfswinkel knocked the ball back towards the far post where Luiz’s header was deflected by Pilkington and the ball was in the back of the net. 1-1
Ivanovic decided to test Ruddy from long range on the 73rd minute however Ruddy was on hand to get down to his right and deny Ivanovic from scoring.
Chris Hughton and Jose Mourinho thought it was necessary to make changes so the likes of Eto’o, Hazard, Willian, Hooper and Redmond were introduced to the game.
Nathan Redmond almost made an instant impact as he cut in on the right and fiercely struck a shot, Cech was able to parry and keep the game level.
A floated pass from Oscar was mis-controlled by Tetty who saw the ball land at the feet of Eden Hazard, his shot was straight at Ruddy however the Englishman made a mess of the situation and the ball crept over the line. 2-1
Next saw a moment of pure brilliance as Willian scored his first Chelsea goal by expertly curling the ball into the top right corner. No chance for Ruddy and the three points was a guarantee for Chelsea.

  2. Awesome article. Noticed when Mou took Ba off things changed for the better? I don’t see Ba in the team next season.
Willian’s goal was a beauty. He’ll win goal of the month award.
And Mou’s tactics show what a phenomenal Manager he is.
