Match Report: Reading

Stunning result. Chelsea were leading 2-0 with only four minutes of regular time remaining, but two goals in the closing stages have secured the unlikeliest of draws. Full time, it’s Reading 2 Chelsea 2. A draw out of nothing for the Royals.

Reading produced another Houdini escape act to stun Chelsea and snatch a point after coming from two goals behind with three minutes of normal time remaining. Goals from Juan Mata right on half time and Frank Lampard’s ninth of the season looked to have sealed victory for Rafa Benitez’s men. But the never say did attitude of Reading that took them past Newcastle and West Brom in their previous two matches surfaced again as super sub Adam Le Fondre pounced with his ninth and tenth goals of the season to stun the visitors. Reading staged a late comeback to take a point at home in their Premier League match against Chelsea this evening. The Royals defended well throughout the first half, but a Juan Mata goal on the stroke of half time put the visitors ahead. Frank Lampard doubled the advantage for Chelsea, seemingly putting the game beyond the home side. However, Adam Le Fondre came off the bench to score two late goals to level the scores and lift Reading out of the relegation zone. An extremely disappointing result given how well we played and the lead we held, but it slipped away from us. We allowed Reading back into the match and we were anonymous in behind since the first Reading goal.
