A summary of Chelsea’s defeat to Stoke City

Chelsea have now conceded 6 goals in their last two league games after a defeat at the hands of Stoke City.

The first chance of the game fell to Ramires with only five minutes on the clock! Andre Schurrle used his pace to burst forward down the left flank, as he approached the box he cut the ball back to Ramires who is in a very promising position. However the Brazilian should have shot first time, instead he took a touch and hit the ball over the bar.

Schurrle who came close to turning provider was soon on the score sheet. The German picked the ball up inside Stoke’s half and decided to threaten the Stoke defence, he shifted the ball on to his left foot before firing the ball into the bottom corner. 1-0 to Chelsea with ten minutes gone.

Chelsea were dominating the possession and had a chance to develop on their one goal lead, Branislav Ivanovic whipped a cross into the box but the ball was just slightly to high.

Former Chelsea player and current Stoke manager Mark Hughes was forced to take Charlie Adam off as the Scotsman was struggling for the majority of the eighteen minutes. Stephen Ireland re placed him.

The game lacked any real excitement, with the lack of chances disrupting the flow of the game. Jonathan Walters had a decent opportunity just post the 30minute Mark, however his heavy touch denied him to capitalise on the chance.

With only three minutes before the half time whistle Stoke un-expectedly equalised through Peter Crouch. Petr Cech attempted to claim the ball… He was no where near it, the ball bounced around in the box before Crouch managed to squeeze the ball home. 1-1 HT

Moments after the start of the second Stoke took the lead. Jonathan Walters shoved Azpilicueta and started a run towards goal. He then passed it to Stephen Ireland who curled the ball past Petr Cech. 2-1 Stoke.

Less than two minutes later Chelsea were back on level terms. The blues pumped a free-kick into the box, Begovic cleared the ball to Andre Schurrle who tremendously lashed his effort into the back of the net. 2-2

Andre Schurrle came mighty close to getting his hat-rick. Fernando Torres played a clever ball to the German who had his back to goal, he turned and curled a shot early. The ball beat Begovic but rattled back off the face of the bar. agonizingly close for Schurrle.

Fernando Torres was replaced by Demba Ba just moments before the hour mark.

It’s been said on many occasions that Jose Nourinho is always willing to change the game. With twenty minutes left he decided to bring both Frank Lampard and Samuel Eto’o to change the game, Eto’o nearly did just that. From 12 yards out the Cameroon international poked the ball just wide of the goal.

Chelsea hearts were destroyed in the 90th minute when Stoke scored a fabulous winning goal from Assiadi. Eto’o lost the ball in the middle of the park, Assiadi cut inside and unleashed a thunder strike. 3-2 Game Over!

Win or lose we’ll support the blues. KTBFFH!

1st if lamp had started this match al the hit & miss ramires did would have been convertd.2ndly ramires shouldve been subed instead of mikel.3rdly torres shouldnt hav started this match.4th point is that our defence lacks mobility & cech also needs competition.is a shame that we lost.up blues.

I think one should start calling Cech’s ability to question, he concedes too much goals in the recent times; may be is time for Courtois to come back home. Removing Mikel for Lamp is ridiculous, we deserve to lose.

  4. Martin, Norway.

I don’t understand the need to play Lampard every game. Can’t we survive without Lampard?
