Month Review: January

A new year into the Premier League, a new way to start off fresh from last year’s performance, January was the month where we managed to not lose a single match, winning 5 and drawing 1, it is time to look at how we performed.

Torres celebrates as he scores the first goal of the match

To start off the new year, we came up against Southampton who we managed to beat last month, after conceding a 12 second goal. The match started slow due to wet conditions and there was not many actions in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, there was a moment when Jose decided to sub off Mata for Oscar, Mata came to the bench and showed his frustation at being substituted so early. Thus, the first goal came in the 59th minute, when a deflected shot from Oscar hit the bar, only for Torres to hit in the rebound. 11 minutes later, a pass from Oscar to Willian, who stroke a beautiful shot pass the keeper to make it 2-0. 11 minutes later again, a lovely lob pass from Hazard to Oscar, who managed to hit the goal 1 on 1 with the keeper to make it 3-0. A perfect start to the new year…

Eto’o celebrates as he scores for Chelsea

Our first home game of 2014 saw us take on Manchester United, who were 7th place in the league table. The match started out with United keeping most of the possesion. At the 17th minute, we took the lead courtesy of a deflected shot from Eto’o. Just before half time, a corner cleared from which Ramires passed to Cahill who found Eto’o, to score the 2nd goal of the match and take a 2-0 lead going into half time. Second half begin, less than 4 minutes in, a corner from which Cahill headed in the ball which was blocked, only for Eto’o to hit the rebound for his first hattrick for Chelsea (The last hattrick by Chelsea was Torres against QPR in 2012). In the 78th minute, United got a goal back courtesy of Hernandez, Vidic was sent off in the last few minutes. Thus, the match finished 3-1 victory over United which kept us in the hunt for the title.

Our last match of January saw us take on West Ham. A win would put us level on points with City. The match started out well with Chelsea dominating most of the time, although most of the chances were ruined over and over. At half time, it was still 0-0, second half began, once again Chelsea dominated but failed to convert there chances as we ended up drawing, having 38 shots on goal with West ham only 1. It ended on a frustating day at the Bridge.

Our team performed very well for the entire month and my favourite moment is Eto’s hat-trick against Manu and our victory on that day! However there was also a sad incident in last month, one of my favourite player juan mata left to rivals(manu), but we moved on very well from that setback by the team and jose never dissappointed in terms of results there-after except the draw against westham which was unfortunate.
