It’s been already 2 months now and the Premier League has become more competitive than it ever used to be, it is time to look at how the Blues performed in their matches during the month of September:
Everton vs Chelsea
September 14
Goodison Park
The Premier League got back to action after an exaggerating 19 days of International Break and the fans were excited to the see the Blues back in action after more than 2 weeks. What started out as a match where everyone was excited to see Samuel Eto’o make his debut for Chelsea, ended up as the first loss for the Blues this season due to a Naismith header goal just before half time. Eto’o had a debut to forget as he missed a chance to score an open goal after Howard made a mistake and Schurrle provided a pass and Eto’o’s shot was just blocked by Barry. Chelsea tried to fightback for an equalizer in the 2nd half but it was not enough as we lost.
Chelsea vs FC Basel
September 18
Stamford Bridge
Chelsea were hoping to start their european competition with a home win against Basel. The Blues took the lead just before half time courtesy of a goal from Oscar(who scored 6 times in last season’s competition). It looked like a win was on the cards for Chelsea but not until the 70th minute when Basel’s Salah(who scored against Chelsea last season in the Europa League) scored again against us to make it 1-1 before Streller scored a header from a corner 10 minutes later to give Basel a shock lead against us. Chelsea ended up as losing 1-2 and also got their Champions League campaign off to the worst possible start.
Chelsea vs Fulham
September 21
Stamford Bridge
Chelsea looked at the match as an important step in recovering from a set of 4 matches without a win. The match started in the normal way possible with Fulham getting an early chance to take the lead as Bent came on 1 on 1 with Cech but Cech managed to save the shot and there wasn’t much of the action from Chelsea in the first half. Starting the 2nd half, in the 51st minute, Eto’o shot blocked by Stockdale only to see Oscar score from an open chance. Then, out of the blue, corner from Lampard towards terry who heads it towards Mikel who managed to score his first premier league goal in acrobatic style. The match ended 2-0 with Chelsea claiming a derby win over Fulham
Swindon Town vs Chelsea
September 24

Chelsea prepared to kick off their Capital One Cup campaign with their first match against Swindon Town. Chelsea started the match well with Torres scoring the 1st goal after Mata’s shot was blocked by the Swindon Keeper only for Torres to fire it to an open net from an impossible angle and just after 6 minutes, Torres dribble past 3 defenders to put a through ball to substitute Ramires to score the 2nd goal. The 2nd half had not much of that moments but there were a few, Swindon player N’Guessan managed to head into goal from a free kick only to see it rules offside and Willian missed a big chance to score his first goal for the Blues after Torres shot was blocked by the keeper only to see his rebound go wide. Schwarzer made his debut for Chelsea, managing to keep a clean sheet in the match but there was bad news for us as van Ginkel got injured within 7 minutes for the match and had been subbed off within 10 minutes. He suffered a anterior cruciate ligament damaged which will keep him out of action for 6 months.(Get Well soon Ginkel)
Spurs vs Chelsea
September 28
White Hart Lane
Second Derby in September, Chelsea looked to grab the 3 points at the Lane and go at the top of the table for temporary time, depending on results from elsewhere. The match didn’t start well for the Blues, with Spurs taking an early lead in the 19th minute through a goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson after Terry was unable to clear a through pass and the match wasn’t that lively for Chelsea in the 1st half. The 2nd half was a mixed dramatic action for Chelsea. Mata came on in the 2nd half and changed the match for Chelsea. His free kick led to the equalizer for Chelsea as no one marked Terry, who managed to score a free header. Torres became more livelier than ever in the 2nd half as well as he made many runs to push the Chelsea attack, providing many key passes which provided crucial chances, one of which was Schurrle one on one with the keeper but his chip shot was just not enough to beat Lloris. There was a moment in the 50th minute where Torres and Vertonghen had a fight, leading to Torres slapping Vertonghen and the referee gave Torres a yellow card only. The worst moment came in the 80th minute when there was a clash of heads between Torres and Vertonghen and there was no foul but the referee gave Torres a second yellow which meant a red and Torres was sent off and the match ended 1-1 draw.
