News Blitz: Todd Boehly set to sign agreement this week for Chelsea

Welcome to your News Blitz for the 4th May 2022, in this article we will cover the most important stories that came out today, these articles may become a regular occurrence in the future, let’s get into the first story.

Todd Boehly open to keeping Marina and Bruce Buck but likely to form new look board :

In a report from chief mail writer Sami Mokbel he states that Todd Boehly is open to keeping both Bruce Buck and Marina Granovskia but it’s likely that Boehly & Clearlake ( headed by Behdad Egbhali and will own a 60% stake in Chelsea ) will make new additions to the Chelsea board.

It remains to be seen who, but Boehly himself has already added data analyst and Journalist Daniel Finkelstein and Chelsea American fan Babara Charone to the board as non executive members.

Romelu Lukaku complained to Thomas Tuchel’s staff earlier on in the season :

Liam Twomey, a fantastic writer for The Athletic stated this morning in his report that Lukaku complained earlier on in the season that he could not handle the pressing demands of Chelsea and Tuchel’s style and that Antonio Conte gave him more freedom.

Lukaku believed that making him hunt the ball down was having an adverse affect on his ability on the ball when he had it.

It’s not my place to comment on fitness or weight of Chelsea’s £100m man but it just goes to show the poor scouting and consideration by Chelsea, why buy a striker suited to counter attacking football when Chelsea’s coach employs a possession based system with emphasis on constant high pressing?

Sir Jim Ratcliffe not giving up on Chelsea :

Making sense of the whole ownership process has been hard however what we do know is that Todd Boehly is now in a week of exclusivity and is likely to sign the agreement to buy Chelsea by the end of this week. Sir Jim Ratcliffe came into the fray late on with a bid totalled around £4.25BN ( £2.5BN upfront + £1.75BN investment over 10 years ) whilst this isn’t affecting the takeover picture at the moment, the chemicals giant who owns INEOS is not giving up hope.

Ratcliffe went onto BBC sport for an interview where he outlined a number of things, these were as follows :

  • He is originally a Manchester United fan and said he has “split loyalties” between the two clubs
  • He wants to turn Chelsea into a club of “the same stature as the city of London”
  • The bid is not about making profit from Chelsea as Ineos makes “lots of money from chemicals”
  • Stamford Bridge needs a “world-class capacity as well as a world-class stadium” and will not be renamed
  • Significant investment would go into Chelsea’s women’s and academy teams
  • His group “couldn’t get comfortable” with Chelsea’s valuation when they first expressed interest in buying the club in 2018
  • France striker Kylian Mbappe would be his dream signing for Chelsea, but concedes he is likely to move to Real Madrid
  • He thinks current Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is “excellent

Ratcliffe addressed why he bidded for the club later than everyone else in the process :

I think that is quite simple – it is a big decision to buy a national asset and it’s a big commitment in terms of time and money.

“ We’re there for the long term. That’s a lot of responsibility to take on and it takes time to reach a decision to be fully committed. “

“ We got there at the end of the day and we are committed. We’re not giving up.”
