Player ratings: Phenomenon Cole Palmer guides Chelsea to victory once again

Chelsea take a huge three points with a 2-1 win over Newcastle thanks to magic from Cole Palmer.

An ugly last half our followed a good first 60 minutes, but it tops off a weekend where results really did go for us.

Robert Sanchez – 5

A really poor day for distribution this afternoon. Gave it away poorly countless times in the first half, and in the second, poor balls to the wingers that were overhit. Not tested too much either.

Malo Gusto – 5

Pretty quiet today I thought despite getting into some good positions. That was much the story of our right side today, got into good areas but just couldn’t offer quite enough.

Wesley Fofana – 6

Shaky start with the foul and near injury in the first half but was okay throughout the rest of the game – pleased and impressed he got 90 minutes under his belt.

Levi Colwill – 7

Looked comfortable throughout today I felt, both on and off the ball. Seven clearances too, absolutely huge towards the end of the game.

Reece James – 7

On the left for most of today and was okay there all in all. Much like Fofana, I’m really pleased and impressed that he got 90 minutes today, and made a massive clearance/interception in stoppage time shortly before the final whistle.

Moises Caicedo – 8

Performances today are becoming regular, and he’s showing that price tag to be justified. Hardly put a pass wrong, made seven interceptions and four tackles. Absolutely incredible player.

Romeo Lavia – 7

The catalyst to our second goal, really neat on the ball and all round just had a very decent game. A pivot of him and Caicedo can’t be displaced right now.

Noni Madueke – 6

Frustrating at times. Like Gusto, got into some really good areas but lacked directness sometimes.

Cole Palmer – 9

Out of this world. The best player in the Premier League and one of the best in the world. An unbelievable pass setting Neto away before our opener, and scoring a great goal of his own. The numbers and performances he is putting up for us are just normal at this point. I can’t praise him enough.

Pedro Neto – 7

A great assist for our first goal, looked a little more quiet when he went out to the right but a good day today.

Nicolas Jackson – 7

Hold up play for 60 minutes was absolutely fantastic, another goal putting him onto six already. What a striker he is.

Substitutes:

Marc Cucurella – 6

Not too bad, helped see the game out though once or twice, just caught out of position.

Enzo Fernandez – 5

Not an easy cameo to judge, pretty quiet but gamestate suggests he wasn’t quite going to be a difference maker.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 5

Quiet when coming on.

Christopher Nkunku – 6

A handful at points, won a penalty which wasn’t given, and kept pressure on their defenders late on.

Enzo Maresca – 7

First 60 was great overall but the last 30? Ugly. We dug in, got the points but need to be better for an entire game still. Especially defensively.
