Player ratings: Chelsea and Maresca APPALLING at Ipswich

Chelsea fall to a second defeat in a row, ending 2024 three games without a win.

More questions asked about Enzo Maresca’s substitutions, lineup calls, and performance levels of other players.

Filip Jorgensen – 7

Probably the only player tonight who can say they put a shift in. If it wasn’t for some of his impressive goalkeeping, Ipswich could’ve had more. I feel very sorry for him though for the penalty given, it was an utterly disgusting decision from the referee.

Axel Disasi – 2

He shouldn’t be playing again this season. We had three right backs on the bench yet he played the majority of the game. Unbelievable. Shocking mistake for the second Ipswich goal too, and by that point, the damage was done.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 4

Unconvincing again and didn’t really deal with Liam Delap whatsoever. Looked vulnerable every time he was tasked with defending.

Levi Colwill – 4

Much the same as Tosin, completely unconvincing and had no answer for Liam Delap’s workrate and quality tonight.

Marc Cucurella – 4

Shocking. Didn’t really offer anything even from an on the ball perspective. A really poor night.

Moises Caicedo – 6

Struggled to control Ipswich on the transition I felt but he wasn’t a complete lost cause like many others tonight. Was decent on the ball and in his duels.

Enzo Fernandez – 6

Same as Caicedo in truth, not a complete and utter disgrace but still hardly great. Not our night at all, couldn’t deal with Ipswich on the break but I think that speaks to a larger issue.

Noni Madueke – 3

I expected a response tonight after being left out on the weekend. Did we get one? Absolutely not.

Cole Palmer – 5

Hardly in the game at all. Unfortunate to have his effort pushed onto the bar by yet another goalkeeper randomly having a blinder against us.

Joao Felix – 3

Weak as anything, wouldn’t have him anywhere near the team until he fixes up in terms of retaining possesion. Felt like he lost the ball so many times in the first half that allowed Ipswich to attack us.

Christopher Nkunku – 2

A complete and utter passenger. Doesn’t press, didn’t link up play, didn’t do anything at all tonight. Needs to seriously fix up.

Substitutes:

Nicolas Jackson – 3

You’d struggle to convince me he even came on.

Jadon Sancho – N/A

Never in it.

Malo Gusto – N/A

Pedro Neto – N/A

Enzo Maresca – 3

Questions asked again. Poor decisions, poor substitutions and all of it has played a part in our defeat. Why Disasi when we had Acheampong on the bench? Why did he play over an hour? Why make the first chance at 2-0 rather than half-time?

It’s all a learning curve, I know. But please, can we start learning!
