Player ratings: Chelsea bottle two goal lead to Arsenal but Mauricio Pochettino will be very happy with the performance

A flawless performance in many respects, and one that deserved a win.

Let down by a dire mistake that ultimately cost us our lead, but there are positives to be had, don’t you think?

Robert Sanchez – 4

No point holding back, this is someone who has completely and utterly cost us the game. We were cruising, no problems at all and a horrendous mistake allowed Arsenal back in the game. Drop him!

Malo Gusto – 6

Decent, and stood well against Martinelli, however, lost Trossard at the back post for the equalizer. My frustrations may well be clouding my reactions here, but I’m wound up ultimately.

Thiago Silva – 8

Make no odds about it, Silva was outstanding tonight. Hardly lost a battle, read everything so very well, and for me put in his performance of the season so far. Interestingly, in a back four again.

Levi Colwill – 6

Held his own in the left channel, and despite a few shaky moments on the ball in the first half, did very well. Another who did enough on his own to feel like a draw was a harsh result.

Marc Cucurella -7

I’m interested to see what everyone else made of his performance, but I think tonight was arguably one of, if not, Cucurella’s best in a Chelsea shirt. Saka hardly had anything past him, at least from what I watched, and he was great all in all. Positive for sure.

Moises Caicedo – 7

Another improvement on the eye, and simply just did his job. 50% duels won (Sofascore statistics) and an all round decent shift from Moises Caicedo. In fact, the midfield as a whole were solid.

Enzo Fernandez – 6

A slightly quieter night by Enzo’s standards but still tidy enough. It was a game that was a different one for him and others, with us sacrificing possession to a larger degree than normal, and I find that may have been a cause for a more under the radar performance.

Conor Gallagher – 7

Tonight, for me, Conor Gallagher was one of our best players. Seemed to cover an awful lot of ground, competed in seven ground duels (Sofascore) and was just quite a nuisance to the Arsenal midfield. I’m pleased with how he did.

Cole Palmer – 8

The pundit’s player of the match, and mine too. Each time I watch Cole Palmer I’m just impressed at how mature he is for his age, knowing the most sensible thing to do each time he gets the ball. Not only that, but he took his penalty very well early in the game.

Raheem Sterling – 6

Solid this week again and put in a real shift. Nothing overly special, but I feel a six is fair toa degree, and anything else is somewhat harsh. Does he start next week? I’m not sure yet.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 7

Defensively clever, and a goal! Some fortune to it, but a goal nonetheless. Mudryk is in a neat run of form of late, and another goal today will only boost his confidence that bit more.

Nicolas Jackson – 5

Not much to add here, a quiet cameo all in all.

Reece James – N/A

Noni Madueke – N/A

Mauricio Pochettino – 8

Tactically great, I thought? We can’t odds a Sanchez mistake ultimately costing us the game, but aside from that, we were set up really well to get a result, and Pochettino, I hope has won a few more over – and me.

Gutted overall, but we need to take the positives from today into Brentford next weekend. Up the Chels, as always.
