Thats another loss to the list…. Chelsea falter to a crushing 1-3 defeat to Brighton at home.
A controlled and comfortable game was what it seemed at first but then a moment of stupidity once again with Santos loose pass causing Chalobah to panic and get sent off changed the complexion of the game for the worse.
A lot of questions need to be asked of some of the players mentality, the managers changes and the squad planning as a whole because this isn’t sustainable over time.
Chelsea host Benfica in the champions league next before hosting champions Liverpool in the league a week today. A big week before the international break.
Sanchez: 5.5
Claimed and collected crosses quite well. Distribution could have been better with a couple of loose moments. Not much he could have done with either goal
James: 7.5
Solid defensively and supportive going forward and picking up an assist for the first goal. Its good to see reece playing on a consistent basis these days.
Chalobah: 4
Nullified most threat from Brightons transitional play and looked confident with both aerial and ground duels. Caught out for the red card and had to take one for the team after santos sloppy play.
Hato: 6.5
His first start at LCB and based on this game he seemed much more comfortable on the ball and his passing ranges and angles to look out for our midfielders really helped our transitional play.
Even when down to 10, he looked composed and comfortable playing in that role.
Cucurella: 6.5
Dealt with Minteh very well and always seems to feel extra motivated against Brighton. Needs to stop picking up needless yellow cards and control his aggression.
Caicedo: 8
Phenomenal once again, added to the spice of playing against his former club. Every week theres a masterclass of a performance from Caicedo.
Its a given that he plays well every week. Also worth mentioning the pass for the pre assist for the first goal.
Santos: 3
Looked solid in there and provided stability/balance in midfield and allowed the licence of Enzo to go forward and support attacks much more.
Such a shame he cost Chalobahs red card with his heavy touch and ultimately added a lot of pressure for us.
Life in a chelsea shirt has looked miserable and unconvincing after a great season in France for santos.
Enzo: 5.5
By far our stand out player in the first half. Looked sharp on the ball and created a lot for us. His box crashing gets better and better each week and he scores some vital goals for us. Nullified second half and was quiet.
Estevao: 7.5
Looks electric on both sides with his trickery and chance creation. Always feel like something will happen with him in the final third. Such a shame he was sacrificed once again after the sending off.
Neto: 5.5
Some decent moments on the left and good work rate as per usual but end product wasn’t great.
Joao Pedro: 3
Struggled to get into the game against his former side and was extremely quiet for his standards. Even more nullified in the second half. Reminiscent to the palace game
Maresca: 2
One of the criticisms most of us fans have is why Josh still isn’t getting any game time.
Despite the centre back crisis we are in. Furthermore why he still isn’t using Marc Guiu, even as an option off the bench.
Overall, a game changed by the red card and we have to look at Maresca’s in game management and subs the made.
We seemed fine with our attackers on the pitch and as soon as Estevao came off with no attacking sub/outlet on, we crumbled just like we did against Man Utd .
Subs:
Lavia: 5
Good to see him back on the pitch for a crucial week ahead
Badiashile: N/A
Achaempong: 5.5
With Chalobahs red, we will finally see Josh get minutes on the pitch. Looked sharp being on the pitch
Gusto: 2
Very ineffective coming on, had 1 great run at goal at 1-0 but decided to cut back and slow down the attack.
