Player ratings: Chelsea defeat Leicester in feisty early kick off

Chelsea return from the international break to secure an important three points in the early kick off this weekend, with a 2-1 win away at Leicester.

A game which threatened to see Chelsea run riot after the first half an hour, though ended up closer than Enzo Maresca would’ve hoped, with Leicester’s late consolation.

Robert Sanchez – 5

Not really a net positive again today, arguably a negative if anything. At a point where we were totally controlling the first half, his poor pass to an under pressure Caicedo sparked life into the crowd and allowed Leicester to finish the first half strongly.

Wesley Fofana – 6

Pretty solid today at right back against his old side. Didn’t really put a foot wrong and was decent in possession overall.

Levi Colwill – 6

Had a decent game again, looked good on the ball, always keen to break the lines of Leicester’s press. Admittedly not his best day this season, but a lot of that due to the fact that we weren’t tested excessively.

Benoit Badiashile – 7

89% pass accuracy and completed over half of his long balls. Coming into the team today I was a little concerned at what exactly we’d get from him, but he was really tidy.

Marc Cucurella – 8

Fantastic again, I’m beginning to run out of words for how good he’s become. It felt like he was just everywhere.

Moises Caicedo – 7

Another game, another good game from Caicedo. 94% pass completion, and good off the ball in most parts. It felt like at times we were overrun in midfield but that wasn’t strictly down to him.

Enzo Fernandez – 8

His best game in a good while again, seen with another assist, and a goal too. Won seven of nine ground duels and supported across the midfield. Really good, much, much better.

Noni Madueke – 6

Not effective enough I didn’t think today, also prevented Palmer from a certain goal, though that was very unfortunate. I’ll give him credit though because his constant effort is impressive.

Cole Palmer – 6

A couple of nice moments by way of passes but couldn’t quite stay in the game for the entirety of it. Luckily though, we’ve got plenty of players who are now able to offer us a threat.

Joao Felix – 8

Fantastic, especially off the ball! Won nine of 14 ground duels, was absolutely everywhere on the pitch, working effortlessly to win the ball back and get us moving again. All in all, delighted with his performance today.

Nicolas Jackson – 7

Took his goal superbly today, with a relentless effort to create the chance for himself. He’s having a great season and is really starting to get plaudits for the work he’s doing now.

Substitutes:

None of them played particularly long enough to warrant any rating unfortunately.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – N/A

Enzo Maresca – 7

Set us up pretty well, which we all saw the benefits of in that first half an hour. Beyond that though it wasn’t pretty, but we got the job done, and that is what matters.
