Player ratings : Chelsea defeat Milan 2-0 for their first win in Italy since 2004

A feisty affair saw Chelsea cruise to a 2-0 win at the San Siro against AC Milan after an early red card for former blue, Fikayo Tomori. The Italian side were reduced to ten men after less than 20 minutes after Tomori was sent off controversially for a shirt pull on Mason Mount inside the box. Jorginho tucked home the penalty, and Aubameyang doubled the score later in the half to put Chelsea in firm control of their Champions League group.

Player Ratings:

Kepa Arrizabalaga- 7/10

Another clean sheet for the Spanish keeper who has had a fine return to the side. Kepa continues to show each week why he deserves to keep his place in the side. He made a decent stop to deny a dangerous Tonali cross.

Reece James- 7/10

Every Chelsea fan will have their fingers crossed tonight that the injury that forced James off in the second half is not a serious one. The English fullback looked dominant in the first half, once again keeping Rafael Leão quiet, as he did effectively last week.

Thiago Silva- 7/10

On his 100th Champions League appearance, the 38-year-old Brazilian managed to keep another clean sheet in an important European tie. Another composed performance in another important game for Chelsea.

Kalidou Koulibaly- 8/10

Three starts and three clean sheets for Koulibaly under Potter now. After a slightly shaky start, the Senegalese defender began to assert himself in the game, shutting down Milan attacks constantly throughout the game.

Trevoh Chalobah- 7/10

Another strong performance by Chalobah, who is cementing himself well in the side in place of the injured Fofana. Dealt with Leão well.

Ben Chilwell- 6/10

A slightly shaky performance from Chilwell, who allowed a dangerous cross into the box that almost resulted in a Giroud goal. He was relatively quiet offensively.

Jorginho- 8/10

A dominant display by Jorginho who dictated the play completely throughout the game. The Italian scored a perfectly placed penalty to open the scoring, and made sure the Chelsea defence was never under true pressure for the rest of the match.

Mateo Kovačić- 7/10

Impressive from the Croatian, who maybe had an easier game than he would have expected after Milan were reduced to ten men. Some nice dribbling and forward passing on display.

Mason Mount- 8/10

Another strong performance by the English midfielder, who was involved in the key moments in the opening 45 minutes before his substitution. He won the penalty, which also saw former Chelsea player Tomori controversially sent off. Later in the half he played a brilliant through ball, which found Aubameyang who doubled Chelsea’s advantage.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang- 7/10

Three goals in three starts for Chelsea’s new number nine. A brilliantly taken finish to double Chelsea’s lead in the first half was crucial for the Blues. Aubameyang is proving every game how much of a goal threat he still is.

Raheem Sterling- 6/10

A quiet night for Sterling in what was otherwise a perfect night for the Blues. The English winger struggled at times to pose a threat to Milan’s defence, and will hope to be a bigger threat in the Chelsea attack in future.

Subs

Connor Gallagher- 6/10

Gallagher came on at half-time with his usual fiery attitude. He looked like he wanted to continue his impressive form, but will be disappointed not to have got a goal with some good chances missed.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek- 6/10

Loftus-Cheek would be well within his rights to feel disappointed not to have been given the start today, after strong performances in his last two games. When he came on, he was solid in the midfield once again.

César Azpilicueta- 6/10

Brought in to replace the injured James, off the back of an impressive performance at the weekend. Azpilicueta coped well defensively and helped the Blues see out the game.

Kai Havertz- N/A

Marc Cucurella- N/A

Graham Potter- 9/10

Chelsea’s new manager must feel on top of the world after his side’s last three performances. Despite heavy rotation the Blues seem to be getting stronger each game, highlighted by defeating Milan twice in a week. Another good result for Chelsea tonight in a physical fixture, as they take control of their Champions League group.
