Player ratings: Chelsea draw 4-4 against Manchester City in one of the craziest games at Stamford Bridge in history

Wow, what a game!

This is a Chelsea squad with character, and a care for the club – quite very clearly shown in the performance today, that yielded the result that we deserved.

Lets try and dissect it in the ratings…

Robert Sanchez – 7

Whilst I thought he was poor for City’s third goal, Sanchez made some vital saves from both Haaland and Doku today, so the positives outweigh the negatives in my eyes.

Reece James – 7

Shut down Doku, one of the best 1v1 wingers in the league, and, in typical Reece fashion, grabbed an assist. I also love how Poch didn’t push him too far, 60 minutes was right, and he can use the two week break to rest.

Axel Disasi – 5

Struggled, for me. Partly at fault for Akanji’s goal and just generally sloppier than normal. It does beg the question as to when Badiashile may find a way back into the team.

Thiago Silva – 7

Classy, confident, assured, goalscorer. Thiago was just different class today, and his header in response to City’s disgraceful opening goal was superb – I have had my issues this season with him, but he is back.

Marc Cucurella – 7

Who’d have thought he’d be a top performer again? Not many. Cucurella was aggressive and tenacious all day long, and I am really loving watching him of late.

Was it a penalty? I’m not sure – won’t judge him too harshly for that.

Moises Caicedo – 6

I thought Caicedo was alright today, nothing wonderful, but against a team like City, it won’t ever be perfect. He did his job well enough to contribute to our deserved draw!

Enzo Fernandez – 6

Subbed early, and pretty rightfully so. I think Enzo struggled a bit today, with less time to play the passes we often see him play, and defensively rather poor at times. Again though, I will not jump on him, we have secured a great result.

Conor Gallagher – 7

I was wrong on him, and many else were. A super work ethic and at times, dare I say it, intelligence, and in games like this, he is so useful. Six from 12 ground duels won, a big part in our third goal – he’s working to earning that new contract.

Cole Palmer – 8

Nerves of steel but what a performance in general. Sensible all round and had me lose my voice nearly with the solo run that didn’t result in a goal – we really have struck gold with Cole Palmer, and I absolutely love him.

Nicolas Jackson – 7

A quiet day, but a goal. No complaints in reality I suppose? I find it hard to be too damning or negative today, but four goals in two, stats are stats!

Raheem Sterling – 9

Best performance in a Chelsea shirt? Direct, fast, and again, a goal to top it off. I do have my own frustrations as we all do with Sterling, but he is class on his day, and he was just that this afternoon.

Mauricio Pochettino – 8

Tactically great, good subs and timings, and I am so far behind this man, you couldn’t believe it.

He has instilled character, resilience, and reignited some fight and belief to this squad. Let’s keep trusting him and having faith.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 6

Not much to add.

Malo Gusto – 6

Tidy enough defensively but not much else.

Armando Broja – N/A

Won our penalty despite no other judgements.

Lesley Ugochukwu – N/A

A break now, probably needed. Bring on Newcastle!!
