Chelsea drop two crucial points in the race for the Champions League with a tame 0-0 draw at Brentford.
We improved in the second half with the introductions of Palmer, Neto and Jackson, but it wasn’t enough for the win.
Robert Sanchez – 7
In fairness he kept us in the game late on with a couple of really important saves. It’s two clean sheets in a row for him as well, which does make better reading than what we’re normally used to.
Malo Gusto – 4
Had a really poor game today, poor decision making throughout and topped off by his terrible pass across to Enzo, which caused the Argentine to pick up a needless yellow card.
Tosin Adarabioyo – 6
Decent, solid all round including six clearances in the game. Hard to moan about our centre backs today given the clean sheet.
Trevoh Chalobah – 6
Much the same as Tosin really, five clearances and 100% on his aerial duels. Had an overall solid game and contributed well to a clean sheet.
Reece James – 7
Really good up against Mbeumo. The Brentford winger didn’t really get any joy against him, and wasn’t too involved in the game until Reece was brought off. Good 70+ minutes again from him.
Moises Caicedo – 8
Really good as per usual. Good on the ball, great in duels and managed to avoid the yellow card we’re all so worried he’s going to get. One last game to get through until he’s in the clear.
Enzo Fernandez – 7
Not too bad I thought. Comfortable throughout, had a few opportunities late on that he just snatched at and could’ve done better with, but his overall performance wasn’t bad.
Noni Madueke – 5
A bit of a nothing show today from Noni. Expected a lot would go through him at the start of the game but he wasn’t able to make much happen, even during the second half as well. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt though, he has only just come back and probably needs a few games to get up to speed.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 5
Again, a bit of a nothing performance as well. I definitely wouldn’t say he was “bad” but he didn’t do much either. Haven’t got a great deal to say.
Jadon Sancho – 5
Offered really very little, didn’t create anything and probably gave us another reason to not rush to pay his obligation clause this summer. Not great.
Christopher Nkunku – 2
He doesn’t press, doesn’t create, make runs or stretch defences anymore. He doesn’t play like he wants to he here, and I do seriously question the call to start him. Hopefully no more.
Substitutes:
Nicolas Jackson – 6
Better than Nkunku which wasn’t too hard. Actually offered movement and linkup play, wasn’t bad when he came on.
Cole Palmer – 6
The same as Jackson really. You could see he was trying to make things happen but it just wasn’t falling for him today.
Pedro Neto – 6
Looked bright and lively at points, could see that he made a difference on the right compared to Noni.
Marc Cucurella – N/A
Enzo Maresca – 6
I seriously question the starting lineup today but as the game progressed, you could see what the idea was. Grow into the game, become stronger as time went on. I think it worked to a degree, but to not win could be a real blow with Newcastle likely to beat Leicester on Monday especially. Onto Thursday in Warsaw, and then a huge game against Ipswich.
