Player ratings: Chelsea get beat by Servette but qualify for UEFA Conference League

Chelsea scrape past Servette to qualify for the Conference League, despite some major defensive worries.

It’s definitely relieving to know that Fofana and Colwill seem to be preferred to tonight’s back line, because they were not good enough!

Ratings below:

Filip Jorgensen – 5

Not good nor bad, and had a real shocker of a slip or trip that contributed to Servette going 2-1 ahead.

I’m still to be fully convinced of his abilities but without a settled defence, it’s hard to fully, fairly judge.

Axel Disasi – 5

Was going to be a 4 and was, up until Servette took the lead, but I felt he did then step up, and switch on to help us see the game out.

Was poor for their opening goal as well, should have made a tactical foul but seemed somewhat half-hearted in his efforts.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 5

Again, unconvincing like all of our back line tonight – a 5 isn’t explicitly good or bad, it’s just a neutral judgment and I felt that way on Tosin tonight.

Benoit Badiashile – 4

Worryingly off of it tonight, got caught the wrong side of his man for Servette’s first and just looked shaky at points.

It’s no wonder that Colwill is the preferred left footed option right now, with Badiashile very in and out.

Renato Veiga – 6

I actually felt Veiga was one of our better performers tonight in spells of the game. Pulled off some lovely passes, and nearly scored at the end with a nicely struck effort.

Enzo Fernandez – 6

Felt he was better than average, at least. Couldn’t help but still think he isn’t solid enough defensively to play in a pivot but hopefully as the team and system develops, he’ll improve and hit the levels we’ve once seen.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 5

Very average. I’m again still trying to work out if I like what I see from him right now or if he isn’t there yet (and it’s fine if he isn’t, he’ll get there I’m sure) but I just feel he gets a bit lost in games.

Noni Madueke – 6

Sadly not another hat trick but I thought he was okay and definitely unlucky not to score in the first half. Would start on Sunday for sure.

Christopher Nkunku – 7

The goal makes it a 7 for him – some showings of lovely footwork and he took his penalty really well just like last week.

Want to see more of him with Palmer though.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 6

Was so close to giving a 7 as felt tonight was an improvement in many respects from him.

Some nice runs, held the ball well at times and was very opportunistic in winning our penalty.

Marc Guiu – 5

Didn’t really offer much tonight aside from his ever great work rate.

Substitutes:

Tyrique George – 5

Again a neutral cameo, suspect he’ll get more minutes in this competition now.

Moises Caicedo – N/A

Didn’t see enough to really judge.

Nicolas Jackson – 5

Should’ve had a goal, showed some nice linkup again at times, not much else to report.

Cole Palmer – 6

Even if 15 minutes he does so much, or it at least felt like he did.

Some lovely footwork, could’ve had a stunning solo goal if he caught his shot better late on.

Enzo Maresca – 6

No overall worries as I liked what the gameplan seemed to be (control and see it out).

Saw more positive signs throughout the game and we will learn more from a defeat than a big win at this stage of the season.
