Player ratings: Chelsea lose at Anfield as individual mistakes rear their ugly head again

Chelsea fight hard but it wasn’t enough as Liverpool claimed a 2-1 victory at Anfield.

Robert Sanchez – 5

One of those poor and worrying days for him today, some really poor passes and fairly fortunate to get away with the overturned penalty in the first half.

Reece James – 7

I was really worried today about him starting, but he was really good in my eyes. Looked great on the ball and a lot of the time, comfortable off of it.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 4

Struggled hugely, and I had concerns he would. Couple of poor early passes and the foul on Jota which just allowed the crowd to get into the game. I still rate him, but not one for the bigger games in my eyes.

Levi Colwill – 6

Had an okay game, gave away a poor, preventable penalty but wasn’t exactly poor aside from that.

Malo Gusto – 6

Much like Colwill, not poor but above average. Didn’t do overly bad on the left side up against Salah and looked a bit more comfortable on the right.

Moises Caicedo – 7

Really solid, had zero doubts about that. Was comfortable on the ball at most times, couple of really good moments off of it.

Romeo Lavia – 8

I was shocked to see him come off so early but I suspect it must have been a fitness issue. Looked incredibly assured on the ball, some really nice turns and moments where he opened his body up to move the ball.

Noni Madueke – 5

Was tempted to give a higher rating but didn’t do quite enough. I felt he had the beating of Robertson but didn’t show it enough, felt a little gutless on occasion.

Cole Palmer – 5

Really not in the game whatsoever, which was incredibly annoying. Not sure if that was more on him being poor, or on Liverpool for keeping him quiet but poor.

Jadon Sancho – 5

Slowed the game down too much up against Trent, who I felt was surely worth a try at getting at. Didn’t do enough in the 45 minutes he had.

Nicolas Jackson – 6

Took his goal really well but wasn’t really in the game other than that. Not a great deal to add.

Enzo Maresca – 7

The game plan was solid. I felt encouraged with how we played and subs were good. Just unlucky today.

Substitutes:

Pedro Neto – 7

Really good, direct, took his markers on and offered more than Sancho.

Benoit Badiashile – 6

Pretty solid overall for the 40 minutes he had.

Renato Veiga – 5

Gave the ball away a good few times, often lazy passes over the top in the hope something would stick. Can’t help but feel he was better starting.

Enzo Fernandez – 5

Just a lot of nothing.

Christopher Nkunku – 5

Can’t stand seeing him wide left, offers absolutely nothing there.
