Player ratings: Chelsea scrape through in the Carabao Cup but performance was worrying

What a chaotic game that was…. We are through but JUST. Chelsea limp onto the next round after an unconvincing win against league one Lincoln.

Quite literally a game of two halves overall…

The players and manager need to get their heads straight and screwed on for a tough battle against Brighton at home on Saturday.

Jorgensen: 2

Unconvincing claiming crosses and commanding his box. Its worrying every time Lincoln had set pieces.

Gusto: 4

Some good moments defensively 2nd half but overall very average. Didnt contribute much going forward.

Fofana: 4.5

Looked a bit more himself after a shaky start. Lets hope this is a start of a run of games for him to build on and stay injury free.

Chalobah: 4.5

Struggled to defend the box and lost most of his aerial duels especially for his long throws. Better second half by defending the box better and sniffing out ground duels.

Hato: 2

A tough night and a real taste of english football for our back up left back. Seemed to be beaten too easily with every Lincoln attack.

Andrey Santos: 3

No real penetration in his ground tackling but then again this is comparing him to Caicedo. Slow dictating of the play too in transition.

Enzo: 3

Looks extremely tired in midfield and he seems to be marked out every time he received the ball.

Garnacho: 4

Shining light for the half with drawing fouls and driving at the Lincoln defence.

Buonanotte: 4.5

Some nice turns in midfield but boxed out by Lincolns packed midfield. A well taken goal by quick feet and a tidy finish. These cup games will be great to see his development

Gittens: 2

Very poor down both flanks and struggled to create any sort of chances.

George: 3.5

Very lacklustre performance again from George. Bullied off the ball and didn’t link up play. Very concerning development and a sale in January will seem most likely. However, a phenomenal strike to get us back into the game and results and stats matter i guess…

Subs:

Cucurella: 6

His leadership and aggression for this 2nd half was integral for us hanging in there and picking up the win.

Neto: 4.5

Endless work rate as always and a few good moments down the touch line:

Estevao: 6.5

Very good coming off the bench and relieved pressure each time there was a transition from a Lincoln attack.

Walsh: N/A

Mhueka: N/A

Maresca: 5

Good amount of rotation to mix some A/B team players. However, the question needs to be asked as to why Guiu doesn’t start from the off.

A poorly managed half but made changes and acted on the poor first half. Interesting to see cucurella play midfield for s spell as well and tactically tried something different.
