Player Ratings: Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Chelsea faced Everton in a match where both sides had chances, though the opposing defence was good enough to block the threat out. Everton played very well and had more possession. They didn’t however make as many chances as Chelsea so some may say we deserved the late victory We played like Champions, and Terry’s late goal may be enough, although it is early, for us to win the title. You may question the team selection with players like Oscar and Willian starting, as you might have expected them to be rested for our midweek Champions League match.

Petr Cech- 7.5/10

Petr had an average game in the sticks though he made a wonderful save in the second half.

Branislav Ivanovic- 8/10

Ivanovic was very steady in defence and kept Baines’ attacking prowess to a minimum. He also played considerably well in attack and had an all round great game.

John Terry- 8/10

Captain. Leader. Legend. Three words which optimise John Terry. He kept Naismith quiet throughout the match and he earned the winner touch to scramble Lampard’s cross into the net.Gary Cahill- 7.5/10

Gary played well alongside Terry however he wasn’t as influential. He did make those great last-ditch blocks, interceptions and tackles, which we have come to expect from him.

Cesar Azpilicueta- 8/10

Dave played very well against Coleman and Mirallas and kept them both out of the match. He also started our counter-attacks well down the left hand side of the pitch.

Nemanja Matic- 8/10

Matic had another blinder sitting in front of our defence. He is very good defensively, but adds another passing dimension in our attack. He has been a great signing so far this season.

Frank Lampard- 7.5/10

Super Frank today showed that he could still keep up with the big boys. His rarely made a defensive mistake and his passing game was great. Often, his age caught up with him though, as his lack of pace combined with a poor first touch gave away possession in advanced positions.

Oscar (Subbed off at half time for Ramires)- 6.5/10

Oscar put in another shift in defence today but seriously lacked in attack. He needs a good rest now, as his performances recently have been rather lethargic.

Willian (Subbed off for Torres 61^st minute)-7/10

Willian is another player in needs a break badly. He too has been very tired in his last couple of games, and it has shown in his sloppy play today.

Eden Hazard-7.5/10

Coleman did very well today against Hazard and kept him under wraps. Eden’s play improved when Shurrle came on and he moved into a more central position, but he too needs a break in my opinion.

Sameul Eto’o (Subbed off 69^th minute for Shurrle)- 7/10

Eto’o had a quite game against Everton. He did not challenge in the air and his play allowed the Evertonion’s to drop deep in defence. This did not help players like Hazard and Willian and Torres’ substitution was needed.

Used Subs:

Ramires- 7.5/10

Ramires came on for a tired Oscar and he had an average game in the second half. He nearly scored a wonderful goal but that was basically the only thing he did while he was on.

FernandoTorres- 7.5/10

I am not sure why Torres did not start this match, and in my opinion, he had a good game when came on. His ability to charge at defences forced Jagielka and Distin to sit higher in defence, which helped Hazard and Shurrle later on in the game. He was winning aerial dules, hustling the defence and charging at the, putting them under pressure.

Andre Shurrle- 7/10

Shurrle showed some glimpses of class for the 20 minutes he was on. He clearly needs to play more to improve, and this lack of gametime showed in his low confidence play.
