Player ratings: Pochettino out! Chelsea lose 2-0 to Everton

Another abysmal afternoon for Chelsea, this time coming at the hands of Everton, who now sit just six points behind Pochettino’s side despite having a 10 point deduction a few weeks ago.

In my mind, time is up for Mauricio Pochettino.

Robert Sanchez – 5

One of the performances that wasn’t a standout today, which is probably a good thing despite going off injured late on. Made a great save from Mcneil in the second half, but wasn’t able to prevent Everton’s opener.

Reece James – 4

A captain who can’t reliably play more than 25 minutes a week, it now feels like. Another hamstring injury seems to have caught him up, and even when he was on the pitch, he did nothing of note. We’ve got to just hope that Gusto is back fit soon, and Reece himself too.

Axel Disasi – 5

A quiet day for one of our centre backs, with four of seven aerial duels won against a large Everton side. Not much to add here.

Benoit Badiashile – 6

Marginally better than his partner, Disasi today but still nothing wonderful. Considering the fact that we had the majority of the ball today, the defenders themselves had less to do.

Marc Cucurella – 7

For me, Cucurella today was the best of a shocking bunch. Played on both flanks and was aggressive against whoever his winger was. He, without doubt, has been one of the more consistent performers this season compared to many others.

Moises Caicedo – 6

Won all of his ground duels and kept the game ticking over, I thought Caicedo jad a solid afternoon considering just about everything else around him went wrong. He’s a victim of the midfield setup though unfortunately, and will only get better once that changes.

Enzo Fernandez – 5

Utilized as a 10/second striker, and had 48 touches of the ball (Sofascore). What a shambles and disgraceful way to use a talent like Enzo. That aside, he offered very little today, and won’t ever do so in the position he was playing in. 

Cole Palmer – 5

A quiet afternoon for Palmer, and aside from a few shots from distance, he wasn’t able to provide much for Broja or Jackson. However, he remains for me, a player who can offer us the right things when in good positions, but today wasn’t the day for it.

Conor Gallagher – 5

Despite a heavy involvement (over 100 touches, nine duels competed for) I thought Gallagher was so poor this afternoon and was lucky to play 90 minutes. It’s also arguable to leverage some blame to him for Everton’s first goal, for not making the tactical foul that he should’ve made in the early stages of the transition.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 7

More good than bad, which can’t surely be denied for me today. He had Ashley Young struggling early on and completed four of six dribble attempts whilst also making five key passes. It was a solid afternoon for him.

Armando Broja – 3

I can’t work out what he offered today. 16 touches in over an hour and won nothing in the air – it was not his day.

Mauricio Pochettino – 3

Ineptitude was shown again today in the way we were set up as a team, and I feel as though time is up now on his job. Our midfield doesn’t look right anymore and even his substitutions were strange today, namely Maatsen for Cucurella.

Levi Colwill – 5

Nothing of note from a defensive point of view when he came on, and not his best day.

Raheem Sterling – 4

Offered absolutely nothing in the 25 minutes he played.

Nicolas Jackson – 4

Much the same as Raheem Sterling.
