Chelsea gain an important point on the road with a 0-0 draw at Everton.
It was a performance that left a lot to be desired from Maresca’s men, however it was one of those games that Chelsea have been all to prone to losing in the past.
A point is progress?
Robert Sanchez – 8
Important clean sheet today that was very well-earned.
Down to make a strong low save from a Mangala effort in the first half, and made a huge one from Jack Harrison’s close range effort in the second. A performance today that didn’t even have a “but he did this though” – very happy.
Axel Disasi – 6
Played okay today – obviously not necessarily a natural fill-in over on the right hand side. Late in the game he struggled against Ndiaye, but overall wasn’t too bad.
Tosin Adarabioyo – 7
Made an absolutely incredible block towards the end of the game to keep it at 0-0.
Also made five clearances and won eight from 11 duels (includes both aerial and ground).
Levi Colwill – 6
Not his absolute best and I felt he struggled to take a grip of the game with his passing.
Probably fair to say we weren’t as fluent on the ball in deep areas without Cucurella’s movement.
Malo Gusto – 5
Poor today I thought in that high left position. I’m not a lover of him playing there but equally know he had to do a job with Cucurella missing today.
Moises Caicedo – 7
Another strong performance with some really important moments winning the ball/keeping the game moving.
It’s been great to see how his partnership with Enzo has blossomed over the past couple of weeks. Also won seven from eight ground duels – not being bullied.
Enzo Fernandez – 7
Maybe our best performer today but I’ll stick to a seven rating.
Completed 90% of his passes and like Caicedo, was strong in ground duels winning eight from 11. Games like today against physical teams you need to stand up and be strong. Our pivot were definitely that in my eyes.
Pedro Neto – 6
Couple of lovely moments throughout the game but never really turned it into anything important which is why I’m sticking with a six.
Personally felt he should’ve been moved across to the left in the second half, with Noni coming on for Sancho – didn’t happen though.
Cole Palmer – 5
Not really in the game at all today. It’s rare I give him a rating as low as this but I can’t justify anything higher.
Very disappointed especially considering today was a chance to make a hero of himself again. He’ll be back on Thursday no doubt.
Jadon Sancho – 5
Pretty ineffective and gave Ashley Young a much easier task than he should’ve. I wasn’t happy seeing him decide against taking him on. Was a missed opportunity.
Nicolas Jackson – 5
Some pretty big chances missed today, meaning the question still lingers, “do we need another striker to compete properly?”. Should really have done better with his first chance, a right footed close range effort which went straight at Pickford.
Substitutes:
Noni Madueke – N/A
Didn’t really have long enough to make a difference.
Christopher Nkunku – N/A
Same as Noni really didn’t have time to make a difference.
Enzo Maresca – 6
Disappointed with the late substitutes today and lack of tweaks to maybe give us the upper edge.
That said, maybe he’s trying to manage the squad (now with a couple of injuries) over the next few days. Not our day, but we go again on boxing day.
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and we’ll be back on Thursday!
