Player Ratings: Steaua Bucharest 0-4 Chelsea FC

Andre Schürrle was the main man as Chelsea defeated Steaua Bucharest

Steaua Bucharest
Ciprian Tatarusanu:  5.5
Maybe he could have done better for the second Ramires goal but it was a bullet. 4 goals conceded and he won’t be pleased.
Daniel Georgievski:  4.0
Very poor performance. Completely outplayed by Schürrle and his side was often left exposed as he failed to track back whenever he went forward. On top of all these, he was forced to score an own goal as the follow through of the reflex from Steaua goalkeeper hit him when running towards the Steaua goal.
Lukasz Szukala:  5.5
He was slightly the better of two Steaua centre backs. Made some important interceptions but overall, a poor display.
Florin Gardos:  5.5
Comparatively good in the air than his partner but totally got outplayed by the Chelsea attack.
Iasmin Latovlevici:  6.0
Best Steaua defender. Tried hard and went forward whenever he could. Comparatively, he did a decent job.
Alexandru Bourceanu:  5.5
Midfield was overridden by Chelsea. Failed to content the Chelsea attack or get some good passing moves done when they were in possession.
Lucian Filip:  5.5
Unimpressive like others. Lost possession often and couldn’t get any moves going.
Adrian Popa:  5.0
Played on the right side of the midfield where Chelsea targeted the whole to expose Steaua.
Nicolae Stanciu:  6.0
Combined well with Tanase at times to produce decent chances. Looked like the one who wanted get something out of the game.
Christian Tanase:  6.5
Best Steaua player of the night and the best attacking they have had. Most of the chances Steau have had involved Tanase but unfortunately for him, he couldn’t find the end product.
Federicco Piovaccari:  5.5
Tried his best but he was helpless as he barely had any supply or support from the Steaua midfield. He was bought off at the half time.
Substitutes
Pantelis Kapetaos:  5.5
Came on at the half time. Not an improvement from Piovaccari. Different player, same result. Isolated up front.
Lendro Martins:  6.0
Much more of an improvement from Popa. Created several chances but could provide the end product.
Fernando Varela:  5.5
Replacement for Georgievski. Undoubtedly an improvement but couldn’t make much of an impact.

Chelsea FC
Petr Cech:  6.5
Didn’t had any tough tests but dealt comfortably with the ones he had most noticeably one in which he came his line to clear away the poor back pass from Oscar.
Branislav Ivanovic:  8.0
Barely had a foot wrong. Won almost everything in the air and showed immense physical strength as he outmuscled every opposition player. His forward runs were much impressive than his recent displays. Defensively, a beast.
John Terry:  6.5
Comfortable game for him as he didn’t had much to do. Kept away the occasional threats comfortably and dealt well with the little hustles with Piovaccari.
David Luiz:  7.0
Comfortable on ball and participated more in the attack than in the defence. A very good display from Luiz.
Ashley Cole:  6.5
Solid defensively and like Ivanovic, his forward runs were better than the recent displays.
Ramires:  8.5
Brilliant game for the Brazilian. Scored two goals of good quality and made his usual bombarding runs often. Full of energy and pressed the Steaua midfield very well.
Frank Lampard:  8.0
Best game of the season from Lampard. Barely done anything wrong and scored a typical Lampsy goal right at the end. His first goal in Europe since he scored against Benfica at Stamford Bridge in 2012 Champions League semi final.
Oscar:  6.5
Made a beautiful assist for the third goal which was scored by Ramires but didn’t look like a player we saw against Hull City. Had a comparatively poor first half.
Juan Mata:  7.5
Created several clear cut chances and half ones. His passing were very impressive but at the same time looked sloppy few times. Dropped back and pressed well like Jose want him to.
Andre Schürrle:  9.0
Man of the Match. His best performance n a Chelsea shirt and that too by far. He looks far more comfortable on the left wing despite the less resistance offered by Georgievski. His workrate was very impressive as usual.
Fernando Torres:  N/A
Played for just 10 minutes as he was taken off injured.
Substitutes
Samuel Eto’o:  7.0
Came on for Torres in the 11th minute. Played a part in three goals, always willing to work hard both offensively and in defence from the front. Fancied several shots from distance several times.
Cesar Azpilicueta: N/A
Replaced Oscar on the right wing with 12 minutes to play.
Willian: N/A
Replaced Juan Mata in the 80th minute. He set up Frank Lampard for Chelsea’s fourth goal, in the dying minutes.

Man of the match: Andre Schürrle. His best display in a Chelsea shirt. He lacked the final balls at times but other than that, he was very sharp with his movement and trickery.
Flop of the match: Daniel Georgievski. Left his side wide open and Chelsea exploited it to the maximum. An own goal made his day even worse.
