Players reaction to PSG draw in the quarter final of the UCL

Paris Saint Germain's and Chelsea's

It’s a team we haven’t played against for a decade in competitive competitions that we have drawn in the Quarter finals of this year’s champions league. The Blues play against Laurent Blanc’s Paris Saint-Germain since the last time we played them in the same competition in 2004. A lot has changed since when PSG was just a team from France while the Blues were in the beginning stages of the dominance of the Roman Era at Stamford Bridge.

Now, the French side are one of the favorites of the tournament at this stage while Mourinho’s team are also in a similar chances of winning the trophy they lifted in 2012.

And two of our players, Petr Cech and captain John Terry have spoken to the official website of the Blues about our opponents and also remembered the last outing against the French side in the Champions league.

For the Czech international that match was the first of 88 games he has played for Chelsea in the tournament.

‘I can remember that we won 3-0,’ says Cech straight away when asked for recollections of the first PSG game soon after the draw today (Friday).

‘What I also remember is it was the one of the biggest games so far that season for both of the sets of supporters, and we had Didier Drogba play and he had just come from Marseille so he made the atmosphere at the game even bigger, and he scored.’

And for our captain John Terry who scored in that game, the goal was one of his 8 he has scored for the Blues in the champions league games he has played in. He remembered that fixture for the goal he scored as well as the game being the first one for Jose Mourinho in the champions league with Chelsea.

‘It was a corner from Lamps and the keeper came and missed it and I was able to get a good head on it,’ Terry recalls almost 10 years on.

‘I had a good season in front of goal in the Champions League that year, I scored four including the winner against Barcelona.

‘The away match against PSG was also the boss’s [Jose Mourinho’s] first Champions League game with Chelsea and we were on top throughout. It was a good start.’

And as we close in on another semi-final appearance, it’s important to note that Jose Mourinho has never been beaten in the champions league quarter finals with all the teams he managed. And John Terry and Cech will hope to keep that streak alive by stopping Cavani and Ibrahimovic up top in the PSG line up.

Let’s hope for a great display by the Blues in this games to advance to the Semi-finals of the tournament where the winner can come from the unexpected. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed. Feel free to comment and KTBFFH!

  1. Record books will say, ‘José Mourinho gets his biggest win as a manager, on Wenger’s 1000th.’
