Rafa Benitez has won the manager of the month after being unbeaten in the Premier League in April with three wins from four, Benitez has guided Chelsea to third place. According to me, Rafa deserved the manager of the month.
The last time a Chelsea manager won the award was back in April 2011, just before Carlo Ancelotti was sacked by the club.
Even though he had to put up with a torrent of criticism from Chelsea fans, Benitez has restored his reputation by creating a stylish side who have become favourites for third place in the Premier League and have qualified for the Europa League final.
Ferguson had said: ‘To be fair to him, he has done a good job in the last few weeks, but he is concerned about his CV. He does refer to it a lot.’
In total it is the sixth time Benitez has claimed the prize, and he is still among an elite who have managed to win it in consecutive months – in November and December 2005.
Chelsea’s April in total consisted of six wins, one draw and two losses, away to Rubin Kazan and to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final. In all, Benitez has taken Chelsea to semi-finals in the Capital One Cup, FA Cup and the Europa League.
Yesterday after wining a 3-1 at Stamford Bridge against Basel we extended our unbeaten record in Europe at the Stamford Bridge: P 13 W 11 D 2 L 0. Chelsea have made it to the final in the Europa League. We’ll be facing Benfica at Amsterdam on the 15th of May. If Chelsea wins the Europa League we will be the first club to win the Champions League and Europa League.
Do you feel Rafa actually deserved the Manager of the Month?
