Rafael Benitez takes over untill summer

Reunion: Fernando Torres with Rafa

Chelsea have confirmed that Rafael Benitez has taken the managerial role following the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo.

The former Liverpool boss has been appointed as the Blues’ interim manager until the end of the season as owner Roman Abramovich continues to try and lure ex-Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea Football Club can confirm Rafael Benitez has been appointed interim first-team manager until the end of the season,” read a club statement.

“The owner and the board believe that, in Benitez, we have a manager with significant experience at the highest level of football, who can come in and immediately help deliver our objectives.

“The 52-year-old Spaniard is due to meet the players at the training ground in Cobham tomorrow.

“The two-time UEFA Manager of the Year comes with outstanding pedigree.

“He began his managerial career in his homeland, most notably at Valencia where he built a reputation as one of Europe’s top coaches by winning the Spanish League twice and the UEFA Cup.

“He then spent six years at Liverpool and led them to their fifth European Cup and an FA Cup.”

Chelsea FC 360 would also like to wish him all the very best of luck for the endevours that lie ahead!

  1. “wish him all the very best of luck”: I wish him all the worst. yeah!

  3. I also wish him the best of luck. Can't believe fans wish him the worst! What about the club and the needed results? This isn't a time to be sentimental. The one thing I'm hoping for is for him to rejuvenate Torres by bringing in that Spanish attacking flair into the team. He does have the players afterall.

  5. I wish him the best… NO! For once I need to put the well being of the club over the indulgences of the owner! When is it ever gonna be enough for Abromovic? Di Mateo brought us the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!!! He didn't even get a full season!!! Rafa is gonna sink us, goodbye sexy football, goodbye to any chance o winning anything, hello bottom 10!

Abromovic and the board are taking the piss with us! This is not his personal f*cking ps3 game, this is chelsea fc and we do not want RAFA! He got fires for POOR PERFORMANCE at his last two jobs!!!

  7. Sentiment is one of the few things we have as fans Zane. This is the time to want a change in thge way our beautiful team is run. I personally hope he wins nothing and leave's us playing Europa league next season. That will teach Abromovic to respect the process, there is no instant formula to success!!!

It surprises me that Chelsea fans feel they are guaranteed of at least one triumph this season, and that is when Rafa gets sacked.

The sacking of the special one back in 2007 was the first mistake and a blunder. After building a very solid blues, it was the quest for sexy football. Carlo came with a blue new hope, but again came the hammer on him, it was mistake part 2. A champion as a player and a manager both in europe and Italy. The quest for long term building of a team that can combine good attacking football and still get results saw the coming of AVB, the young portuguese. But was soon shown the door because of player's power. History was made by a man who didnt just play for this club, but loved the club. RDM, he won US our first ever Champions league trophy and our 7th FA cup in a very short time. Now he is no more. A show of ingratitude. Also, The man who scored the only goal that kept our hope of qualifying for the finals in munich on the 19th may 2012. Was scored by one man, Drog. He fought for the team in the return leg at the camp nou. At 87mins, he gave US back life at the finals in munich. He took the last kick and gave Chelsea their first ever champions league trophy. Yet, Roman and his board couldnt give him two years thank you contract. He was allowed to go. Anyway, i understand the compassion he has for this club. But pls we need stability. From Arthur Osadebe

The club is running efficiently. Let's face it, we all thought RDM should try out the false 9 experiment, but definitely not in a must win CL match. Though we do not have a clinical striker, he was supposed to manage what he has until January even if Torres was second choice. Bad decisions all round from transfers, tactics substitution. He definitely lacked managerial substance for high level pressure.

  29. We have been sacking managers long before Roman was even of major note in the 90's. When Ken Bates sold Chelsea I expected great times to follow and it's been crazy all the way. Robbie Di Matteo will always be a blue legend and I still wear my cup final 1997 Di Matteo jersey with pride. It was fun but Roman wants to win and I guess since he has invested billions on 'our Chelsea' he can do what he wants, and you have to realise he wants to win and do it well, for us. This decision was one to be sooner or later realised and to be honest the most shocking ones for me have been Jose leaving and Ray Wilkins having his contract terminated mid-season,wtf was that? So Rafa Beneath-us has been appointed our manager, absolutely hate that Liverpool 'hero', we already have Torres sulking and saying my heart this and that, I feel that these Liverpool connected people are trying to sabotage it all. Anyways, Chelsea is Chelsea and nothing changes, the greatest in the world!

P.S. Roman to sack the fat Spanish wa*nker by January. Carefree wherever you may be!

  33. This is just business. Roman payed alot to bring in players like Hazard and Oscar including Torres so he wants them to be played to their ability. Look at rich owners at Reading and QPR but they're different. They buy average players and Roman buys the best. People can't expect Roman to be patient while these star players' contracts run out with huge salaries without success.

  35. I am going to support Rafa. The new manager needs to improve the defense and make torres work. It would be interesting to see the line up against Man City. I am hoping Mikel to be dropped in next match.

  37. You should not say that. If you hate him but you love the club. To support club, you got to support the manager.

  41. to be honest i think we have some of the most selfish strikers in the premier league………when i say this i am not talking about there play on the pitch……..but when we look at the two manchester clubs for example they both have 4 strikers in rotation at the same time and even thou there are some that feel the need to leave the club because they are not number 1 in the managers eye, they often stcik with it because they are willing to do anything to help the club to victory and to trophies……….but here at the bridge we have strikers some of which are not developed as yet tbh and they often show there displeasure with managers when they dont get picked in the starting lineups……………we neeed true players…players that are willing to do anything for the club, come on…………….##up bluessss##

  45. it's not that easy to win our heart…lots of thing he has to do before he got sacked:
    1. Win the heart of existing legends i doubt who can digest him though they are extremely professional.
    2. Make a quick impact before team turns against him…he has to win the dressing room.Hard job due…senior boys will give u hard time.
    3. Win the fans : ok here is 2 part ..new gener already cheering Roman mentality(20%) and they are as hungry as our owner so no matter for them but there are a huge part ..most loyal s !!
    4. Make the defense more solid.. I believe RDM also can make that just he was trying to show attacking display.
    5. Bring back the form of Torres.
    6. Demolish Nordsalland
    7. Teach Zenden some basic coaching thing.
    8. Maintain classy display
    9. become a blue

  49. To be honest,we need to support him as the manager… i don't care who is the manager as long as we win… RDM already do his job, now let RB do his job… don't be to emotional with what happened, coz this club belong to Roman… he do what he want, he sack whoever he want, face it, or leave the club as what Cech say… it is not about loyalty, but it is more than that… hopefully we can win back, our midfield become strong to support whoever that will become the striker… it is no use we bring good striker, if we cannot control the midfield… and more important is, wish all the best to the club and KTBFFH!!!
