Reading between the lines of Drogba becoming a player-coach at Chelsea

Just to Create a bit of Nostalgia
Just to Create a bit of Nostalgia

I have a friend(Chelsea Fan we’ll call him Fred) who is travelling round following the team to watch all the  games in Asia. He had a spare ticket for each game but I couldn’t have the time off work and didn’t have anyone to look after my Brother. Was a bit gutted to say the least but he has told me some interesting stories about what has been coming out the Chelsea camp about coaches for next season and in the future. He told me about the Drogba being offered a player/coach role at Chelsea two days before the story came out in England. He told me though that Drogba is not the only one going to be offered this oppertunity of becoming a coach.
In Asia stories are circulating that Mourinho is wanting to make his own legacy at Chelsea like Fergie did at United, he is looking to stay for the long run. Fred said after this story came about, the Drogba story popped up, and then one big story popped up but I haven’t been able to find a trace of it over here in England. With Mourinho wanting to stay here for the long run he said he wants to have his own “Special” coaching staff and these stories in Asia are pointing to the fact Mourinho is supposedly going to offer Drogba, Lampard, Terry and Cech coaching roles at Chelsea. When they each respectively come to the end of their playing days.
Now the goods points of this:

  • Mourinho is looking at keeping the Old Guard at Chelsea
  • Their experience will all be a very valuable asset to the young players we have
  • They are all respected professionals
  • Terry wants to be Manager of Chelsea one day

The Bad points about this:

  • They may not be good coaches
  • They may not want to go into coaching

I know these are not major bad points but they are still bad points about this. I know they probably wouldn’t say no but they just may not want to go into coaching after their playing careers. I know John Terry has talked about becoming a Manager and he only wants to manage Chelsea FC. This shows how much he loves the club, supposedly he has talked to Lampard about him becoming his assistant manager. I know this sound to good to be true but it is true.
Back on topic, with Mourinho wanting to complete these changes of coaching staff. It definately shows he is thinking about his long term future at the club, and with his recent comments about the wealth of talent that is brimming in the youth teams, it shows he is looking to former players to help guide the young players as he may see them as the best people possible to do this. I think they are as they have been at this club for many years and are fully respected at the club not just by the Staff there but us the fans these players are our Legends and Hereo’s. We have been with them from the highs of winning the Champions League to the Lows of being cheated out of the Champions League. They know what it is like to be part of Chelsea and they will implement that into our young players, that fire and passion to win and wear the Blue Shirt with honour.
Fred says these stories are very solid, and they are on the news and he hears fans talking about it, he was close enough he says to hear a reporter ask Lampard “Are the stories true about you, Drogba, Terry and Cech about becoming coaches at Chelsea one day?” My friend said Lampard just smiled and said “Maybe”, Fred did say this was the same smile and tone of the phrase of the word “Maybe” that he used when he was asked about his contract at the end of this season.
Frankie Lampard
With all these stories coming out of Asia I would like to see some of these stories in England before I fully start to believe them, Fred regularly updates me on stories that come out of the training ground. Apart from Yesterday when I am writing this as he missed his bluddy flight cos he had a few to many drinks on Tuesday. Luckily he has enough cash to fly out on Thursday.
What do you think of the prospect of these four becoming coaches at the club? Leave you views in the comments below
