Robert or Radamel?

It’s that time of the season once again, every team is soon to be off to Asia, America or another pre-season-only country to play against an all star team or strangely a team from their own country. But more importantly pre-season to me are just bywords for ‘transfer’ and ‘window’. Something says to me that Roman enjoys this time of year more so than he does Christmas. And to be honest, when he dips in to his never ending pockets, so do I.
Many would say that this is a vitally important transfer window for us, and I would agree. But not as much as I did at the beginning of this season. Fernando returned as a European champion and wearing a Golden Boot, too. But he wasn’t wearing it with any conviction and no defence was wary of it either. And I thought come January we’d sign a new striker and we did, in the form of Demba Ba. But I had my doubts, – obviously we weren’t going to sign a UCL striker in the mid-season – I saw Demba just more of a rotation player with Fernando which proved to be the case. I started to anticipate the next transfer window (which is rapidly approaching) but then I saw sense in the rotation.
Fernando Torres wasn’t playing game-in game-out or rotating with a below par Victor Moses. This gave him a chance to rest and prove his worth on the pitch now he was fighting for the shirt. And sure enough, come March/April, the Spaniard started proving that he still has class. And come the full-time whistle against Everton, he bagged himself twenty-two goals in what turned to be a very busy season.
However I feel that a new manager (needless to say who) will want to bring in a new striker who will score more than once every three games. And only two names are on the very short, shortlist. One Radamel Falcao and Mr. I-score-against-Madrid-for-fun, Robert Lewandowski. While I am excited for these huge names to be linked with our club, I feel that making another player have to prove his excessive price-tag is a bad idea. However, unlike the impulse buy of El Niño in the last minute of the last day in January 2011, these two players are in arguably their best ever form and I would not be disappointed if they put pen to paper this summer.
Robert Lewandowski 
The Pole who arrived at Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2010 for the fee of around 4.5 million Euro from Lech Poznan and helped them to successive Bundesliga titles in his first two seasons (keeping Bayern at bay). He really came to life in his second season in Germany, scoring 30 goals in 48 appearances as Dortmund won the second Bundesliga title in as many years.
The momentum carried on in to this season where the former Poznan man has scored 40 goals (and there’s a certain European Cup still up for grabs). 4 of the 40 came in one night against The Galacticos where he showed Europe, and the world, a real strikers display. Most notably, making Pepe look less than amateur and then rifling an effort past Iker Casillas in to the top net.
Lewandowski could potentially leave Borussia this summer and the Dortmund club could cash in a profit ten times more than they purchased him for. But as many key players are rumoured to be leaving at the end of this season it would take something special to persuade him away. The Special One could be the key person in this deal ever happening.
Radamel Falcao
Arguably the hottest property in world football, Radamel Falcao was purchased by Atletico Madrid in August of 2011 for £35 million, of which every penny has been paid back. Scoring 12 goals and taking Atletico to Europa League glory in his first season. The Columbian enjoyed a first domestic season scoring 24 La Liga goals, only behind Messi and Ronaldo, proving that he can adapt to a new league and style of play in his first season – something that Mr Abramovich should take note of.
His display in the Europa League final announced to the world that he’s one of the best around and then reiterated his own point when they met us in the Super Cup, scoring a first half hat-trick and didn’t look like he was planning on stopping (fortunately for us, he did).
This season has been Falcao’s most prolific, scoring 28 goals (and the season isn’t over) and still playing in the almighty shadows of CR7 and Leo Messi. But being just behind them isn’t a negative at all. He could just be the third best player in the world (argue below).
Talk of him being the best striker in the world had died down a bit since his demolition of us. Then on the ninth of December he decided to take his biggest haul for Atletico, scoring five, yes five, against Deportivo. Talk amongst the footballing world was rife once more and it hasn’t really stopped.
There are major rumours that Falcao is going to AS Monaco in the summer which disappoints me as I only see money as his only motive rather than success. Which, unfortuantely, seems the way in modern football.
I think we would be very lucky if either of these names were to put on the Chelsea shirt next season in order to mount a title challenge, which a new manager will expect us to be doing almost every year. I would prefer Falcao as he can adapt to a new league effortlessly, but personally I think he will make the move to France. Lewandowski would be a great addition to our squad on a longevity note and I still think he has time to further his game even more so.
