Romeo Lavia’s long term future may be in the balance – but he is worth being patient for

Undoubtedly one of the best midfield prospects in world football when fit and healthy, Romeo Lavia’s future as a Chelsea player looks in the balance.

Talent wise and ability, there is no question about how integral Lavia is to Maresca’s men and his suitability to the possession-based pattern the Italian looks to adopt at the bridge makes his case a huge dilemma.

Similar to Wesley Fofana, Lavia reminds everyone of how much talent he possesses whenever he steps on the pitch but his injury record over the past 2 seasons leave much to be desired.

When fit and on song, Lavia tends to look the best of the lot as his skillset is so unique and the balance he provides the team is unquantifiable.

The 21-year old’s ability to single-handedly beat opponents press through dribbling or precise line-breaking passes helps set the team’s attacks.

Defensively, Lavia provides the needed balance out of possession as his positioning and strength when dueling keeps the team solid at the back.

Continuing his good form since returning to action, Lavia bossed the midfield against Liverpool. Playing as the deepest midfielder,

Lavia completed all 23 of his passes, earning a 100% pass accuracy.

An all round performance from the ex-City academy star saw the 21-year old contribute his quota to a very important win as he won 4 of 7 ground duels, made 5 recoveries and won a 100% of his tackles.

An imperial performance saw Lavia leave the pitch to a standing ovation from the home crowd and many onlookers.

Despite his incessant injury woes, Romeo Lavia’s unique profile makes him a valuable prospect worth remaining patient for.

After this season, it is hoped that the Belgian gets past his injury troubles and begins to show his level consistently.
