The Dutchman was revered by Chelsea fans despite his exit and after his playing and managerial impact at the club he became a legend.
After Glenn Hoddle left Stamford Bridge to take charge of the England national team, Gullit became a player-manager at Chelsea. In his first season he won the FA Cup, ending a long trophy drought for the club. Despite the second season going well too, Gullit was sacked part way through and replaced by Gianluca Vialli for reasons relating to his contract. Gullit now spends some of his time as a pundit.
Speaking to NIS in Holland, he criticised new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal this weekend and questioned how he’s spent the club’s summer transfer budget. Gullit isn’t the only one to think Van Gaal went for too many attacking players at the expense of defence and said:
“I think he is crazy. When you build a house, you start with the foundations”
“But Van Gaal started with the roof. So then it crumbles. I really do not get it. I really do not understand why he did not start with the defence.”
