Samuel Eto’o said he used not to like Mourinho

We now the main reason Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o came to our club is as a result of a great relationship he has with Jose Mourinho. The striker has claimed a lot of times that Jose is the really what attracted him to Chelsea by snubbing around 3 offers from Seria A clubs. He then took a huge pay-cut from his Anzhi contract to join Jose Mourinho’s blues in the last days of the transfer window.
Jose Mourinho was ’60 per cent’ of his motivation to join Chelsea; Eto’o says they ‘were born to win together’, first at Inter Milan and now at Stamford Bridge.
It was all a little less cordial in March 2005 when Eto’o, then playing for Barcelona, who had just been knocked out by Chelsea, charged up to Mourinho in the Stamford Bridge tunnel and spoke his mind: ‘I know you are a great person and a great coach but in truth you are just a s***.’
But all that, Eto’o says, is in the past. The Champions League, Serie A, Italian Cup treble they won together at Inter Milan healed everything.

‘Before I met him I never thought I would work with him,’ he says. ‘I got it wrong. Everyone has an opinion on Jose Mourinho without knowing him. I have also said thanks to God that he gave me the opportunity to spend one season with him at Inter. We understand that we were born to win together.
‘Mourinho was 60 per cent of the reason I came here. The rest of it was the players here are the best in the world.’

And Samuel Eto’o hopes to shine for the blues this season as his Chelsea debut sees the West Londoners lose 1-0 away at Everton. But, despite misfiring a lot of chances, Jose Mourinho has said he was pleased to see how the Cameroonian adapted to his team mates and style of football of the team. Once, he gets his scoring touch, he doesn’t look like he is going to stop.
Eto’o would have to compete for places against Fernando Torres and Demba Ba for the starting spot in Jose’s team. And it will be an interesting prediction as to who is going to start in Chelsea’s first group stage game of the season in the Champions League.
