Senior players, do they deserve their contracts?

Ok, I’m going to talk about our +30 years old aged players with remaining contract with Chelsea. Are they still good enough to be in our squad? Are they performances worth their wages?
1. Petr Cech
Big Pete, Chelsea number #1, one of the best goal keepers of the world if not the best. Has done a lot for Chelsea since coming from Rennes in 2004. He is probably our most consistent player now.
13688317771426940480
Cech signed 4 years contract extension after we won UEFA Champions League trophy last season. That means he has 3 more years contract. And I think until the end of contract or at least 1 or 2 more seasons, there is no way for another GK can take his place if he keeps playing this way, even Thibaut Courtois.
He earns £100k per week, and I think he deserves it. Nothing I can criticize about this lad, he is incredibly amazing every season.
2. John Terry
JT26, our captain, my favorite ever Chelsea player, was just voted as best england centre back in last two decades in Sky polling. I couldn’t even decide which is more solid between JT and Chinese great wall.
But now, he is 32 years old, he lost his agility, pace, and even defending ability. And his injuries on last season, made it even worse. He retired from England National Team, couldn’t even start 30 of 69 games all competition. From 14 PL games, he scored 4 goals. Makes him still the most goals defender in Premier League history
He earns about £175k per week. That’s too much for bench player. His contract remains until the end of next season.

What I love from JT is he doesn’t mind being benched by the manager, he knows his level now.
“I think I’m going to the bench again” That’s what Terry said after being nutmeg-ed by Mata in training.
He loves this team, and will support it even from the bench. So I think he deserve contract extension IF he accept pay cut. He has to retire here, Chelsea.
If he won’t accept pay cut, he can leave, it’s hard to let a legend and captain go though. but it must be great for our youth like Akè, Omeruo, Bruma, and Kalas.
3. Ashley Cole
If we compare his performances to what Azpilicueta has done on the right this season, or Baines for Everton, it would be a fool to call him “Best LB in the World”.
This english signed two years contract extension with wage raising (WTF) to £200k per week.
He has been awful this season for me. LB was the weakest role in Chelsea after double pivot and striker last season. Ashley has done very few to help Hazard on the left, and wasn’t as good as him at his peak on defending. I can even say, Bertrand played better than him in recent EL games. Bertrand did good overlap and run a lot to help the LMF.
So I think Ashley doesn’t deserve 2 more years contract and £200k per week, and need to be sold soon. There are Bertrand, and Aanvolt in our squad, or maybe we can sign a LB this summer.
4. Frank Lampard
Super Frankie Lampard. No one can deny his scoring ability, scored 203 goals for Chelsea, made him Chelsea all time top scorer, highest goals midfielders in Premier League history, and the second after Thierry Henry among all players in PL.
Sadly, apart from goals, he gives nothing. In 4-2-3-1 formation, he usually played as DMF. As DMF, you have to defend, fill the gaps of back 4 if one of them over lapping, play the ball, control the tempo of the game, flow the ball to front 4, and support the attack. I know it sounds really hard, but it’s true, DMF is the main role of a club for me. And yes, none of our DMFs can do all those jobs. So we really need one this transfer window
Frankie doesn’t have a place in 4-2-3-1 for me, was good when we played 4-3-3 formation. But if we keep using 4-2-3-1, he has to get used to the bench. And he hates bench
lamp frankard
One thing I don’t like from Lampsy is his ego. He cares more about his goals and records than the team. He was one of the reasons of AVB sacking. He moaned about bench, unlike Terry
And I think he probably deserve his one year extension after breaking Bobby Tambling’s record , BUT not his £150k per week. Many rumours said that he accepted pay cut, but he didn’t! He signed one year extension with around his current salary.
But I don’t mind if he goes. We can give a shout to Josh McEachran, Romeu, or sign a proper DMF this transfer window.
I love all these legends, but I think we have to move on, and give chance for youngsters to write Chelsea history. We’re club, we’re far more than legends
Oh, and I’m sharing my thought with you, I write what I see, not what you all want to read. It will be appreciated if you send me your comments and opinions about this article, not abusing me. Being a realist doesn’t mean you don’t love the club. -Crissandy

  1. very interesting post 😛

  2. big ego players out. Youngsters in. Casillas type of players wil cause problems for the team. Nice post…

  3. Lampard ego?That’s a typical mismatch.

  4. ayodele oluranti. moses

i disagree with u, no matta what we need to build our team around old guys they are onece d heart beat of d club. have u fogot so soon, jt and cole in d heart of defence my super frankee, the highest goal scoring mfder how old is man utd gigs compare to our legends in d team is that d way to pay them for there loyalty?

    • gerrycrissandy17

Giggs isn’t paid +£100k per week, and doesn’t moan for benched. Scholes wasn’t even paid for his last season. Will Lampard or Terry or Cole do that? No

    • gerrycrissandy17

      *for being benched

  5. Is time the old players(minus cech) moved on..is Dotmond performing badly with their young players? The answer is no

  6. Oh how much I disagree with you about the Cole and Bertrand scenario, I will admit Cole wasn’t at his sparkling best, he doesn’t have the pace he used to but he is still brilliant. Bertrand has been awful throughout the season, I’d bite my nails everytime he was on the pitch, yes Cole wasn’t at his best but hid worst is still a million years ahead of Bertrand.
Now maybe Cole isn’t the best left back in the world but who is? Definately not Baines and he is why, Baines as a defender isn’t so good, infact Baines isn’t renowed for his defending but his attacking abilities, he’s very good at attacking and his crosses and some of his freekicks are sometimes magnificent but as a defender not so good, so Baines would be a liability in defence bit a luxury in attack as we have a wealth of attacking force, so Baines is no good either.
But Cole’s wages are way over the top but we can’t get rid of Cole before we competantly replace him, Bertrand is simply not good enough for Chelsea in my opinion, Van Anholt well he is an untested player in the premier league so you can’t say hoe he will handle it, so we find ourselves in abit of a predicament, what do we do? Simple really bring Luke Shaw in, let him be an understudy to Cole so when Cole leaves we have a player for years to come, sell Bertrand while you at it.

    • gerrycrissandy17

I was saying Bertrand is better that Cole in overland and helping the LMF. Get my points?
Best LB in the world? Coentrao for me. Or Lahm (He played as LB sometime for Germany)
And yes, Cole is awful on defending. Has been fucked by many RWs lasy season

      • gerrycrissandy17

Luke Shaw (if he comes) can adapt by himself like what Azpilicueta did. We don,t hae to pay £200k per week for a mentor. And heard Coentrao has been linked with us too.

  7. #1chelseafan.

    I said well fellow blues.

  8. #1chelseafan.

You said it all fellow Blues. kip it up.

  9. In as much as may I agree with u on most part of your analysis, I do not agree with u on where u place Cole. Cole has not been at his best this season but what he does just cant be compared with Betrand does. Not just yet. Azplicueta on ther hand has been good but he’s most penalties if not all.
I feel your article is more on supportinv young players than realistic.

    • gerrycrissandy17

Azpilicueta is our best defender last season
How many penalties 2 or 3? Terry conceded us 2 or 3 too this season
I support youngsters, because they are our future

This article makes much more sense than the last one (which was terrible to say the least).. I believe all our legends shud stay till the new team is ready to challenge year in year out… which I guess shud happen this year with Lamps, Terry and Cole being used as subs.. I still believe they have got a couple of years more of top flight football in them.. Ofcourse if they love the club, they will take a pay cut and be happy with a bench role.. having said that its better to keep them rather than let them go and end up buying buying expensive experienced players.. the phase out has to be graudual.. e.g. Scholes. MAN UTD MF was not ready and thats y he came back. Now they seem much stronger with Scholes guidance.. so another yr or two for these guys.. and the next team will be experienced enuf to challenge for all ttrophies available.

  11. Were u dia to kno dat lamps cares more about his goals and records than the team. Every team needs senior players and legends in its team and I bliv d board knows dis as u can see, also I think terry can play witout bin paid, but scholes did that after he retired and came bak u kno

    • gerrycrissandy17

I watched the game. he’d rather shoot than pass it to his team mates which are on better position

  12. Good article Gerry. Maybe a little bit too severe with Frankie but I agree with you. Apart from goals, he gives not so much.

  13. K DHEERAJ

I disagree with you in cole and lamps case,it is true that ashley has’t performed upto his mark this season you cant expect everything from every player in every season,in camp nou last season while our attackers were struggling to dribble the ball he made some flicks and given some healthy passes and his defencing ability can never be questioned. Praised by likes of steven gerrard as one of consistent player he has seen.I agree that he has’t linked well with hazard this season but you cant expect one of world’s best attacker to understand quickly as eden is a new generation player compared to cole it takes time.Still i cant forget his goal line clearence against barcelona last season and some of amazing displays in ancelotti and mourinho period. And in franks case you have mentioned that he has ego i agree with this and will definitely feel he he has right to show that due the love he has towards the club!when the club did’t offer him a contract at one point he received offer from everton and asome of the clubs but he refused to stay in EP league and even in europe since he has lot of respect towards our club. What has to happen regarding his contract and wage is upto his hands and in club hands but i dont accept if you disrespect our veterans at any situation they are always legends.CHELSEA FOR LIFE.

  14. Disagree if Luke does come trust me he will need guidance from someone who has been consistant for over 10 years, one bad season and fans turn his back on him but I guess thats how football fans are. I think Shaw should be brought in as soon as possible so he can start learning, it will b good for him and Chelsea in the long run I’m not convinced by his current understudies.
The way you slay those players one would swear they are just macenaries. Yes they get paid too much but I think for atleast one more season they could share their knowledge with the young ones and build them. I do not think a team without senior players would go far i.e Arsenal and Aston Villa. When the going gets tough youngsters need someone they can look to on the pitch for guidance or everyone is going to panic. I do agree they wages are ridiculous though no arguments there!
And I’m sorry but Coentrao is not better than Marcelo, thats why when Marcelo is fit Coentrao sits on the bench and I would hate for us to sign him, everyone keeps saying we should give youngsters a shout, yes Shaw is not from our academy but he is wat? 18 and thats young so I wouldn’t want Coentrao at Chelsea waste of money, get Shaw and let Cole show him the ropes

  15. Its good to put reasons and evidence to your thoughts, but i dont understand why you so much put weekly wages into consideration when we are CHELSEA and not Arsenal. It doesnt matter whether Terry will get a pay cut or not. He deserves to be repaid for all he put his body on the line for us not to concede a goal through out his time at Chelsea.
I’m not criticizing but, let’s have a little bit more of RESPECT towards Terry and Cole!

    • gerrycrissandy17

So we have to hang on Roman’s wallet for forever if we keep avoiding to mind the wages..

    • gerrycrissandy17

And do you now Chelsea have about millions dollar debt? Oh you don’t know, because you think Roman can always cover it up

  16. Anonymous

Okay, who hired this blogger? Absolute bullshit. Comparing Bertrand with Ashley Cole? And wait, just because we have recently acquired an attack force, Lampard cannot hold the midfield? I fail to understand who will then, cause honestly, Lampard is the only consistent player in Chelsea and any fingers on him yell ‘i’m a moron’

  17. Anonymous

And so after all he’s done for the club, he doesn’t deserve his contract? This is blasphemy. Looks like everyone is a football pundit nowadays.

    • u’re ryt. Chelsea has dis impatience prb, they never giv d lads enough chance. Look @ lukaku 4instance, and then d 1 dt makes me cry is Sturridge, nw see him doing wonders @ Liv. Bertrand shd b given a chance. As 4 lamps, he shd b gone by d end of dis season.

  18. John Howard

This good of u keep it up.

    • 16aec351ebHey would you mind sharing which blog paltform you’re using? I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S Sorry for getting off-topic but I had to ask! 185
