Todd Boehly holds one last transfer meeting with Thomas Tuchel

Todd Boehly is a busy man and today we have some new information from two reliable Chelsea sources Nizaar Kinsella and Matt Law, who detail how busy Todd Boehly and Thomas Tuchel have been this week.

On Tuesday, numerous Chelsea sources and Italian sources confirmed that Chelsea had struck a deal with Inter Milan for the 1 year loan of Romelu Lukaku and it was in fact Todd Boehly who had been negotiating those terms, 8m Euros plus potential add ons. Boehly will and has been hands on in negotiations for numerous other targets which Include Matthias De Ligt, Jules Kounde, Richarlison, Raheem Sterling, Jonathan Clauss and Ousmane Dembele. It is understood that Todd boehly was in a meeting with Tuchel yesterday which you can imagine would be the last in order to finalise targets before placing bids.

Nizaar Kinsella states that Todd boehly was in Portugal on Wednesday to meet up with head of academy Neil Bath before flying to London on Thursday to hold that meeting with Tuchel and then he will also be at Cobham on Friday.

In Matt Law’s piece for the Telegraph, there was some interesting quotes from a senior source around the plans for next season :

“We really want to make sure we have a good defence. We’ve got depth in midfield. We’re not desperate for an out-and-out striker.”

“Fortunately, there’s reasonable opportunities in the market right now in order to satisfy the fans’ desire to be competitive. I think it’s a combination of moves and there’s five or six that we’re going to look to make.”

On the ambitions for next season, the source added :

“I think table stakes is Champions League qualification and then everything beyond that,”

“Obviously from the English fans point of view, winning the Premier League is extremely important, and then from a global perspective, winning the Champions League is extremely important. Being in a position year in and year out to be competitive.”

Todd Boehly is certainly showing the commitment in his early days as Chelsea Owner, he is also expected to become Chelsea Chairman for the outgoing Bruce Buck. We do not know much about Clearlake Capital’s involvement in this window but as we revealed a few days ago, we know privately that Jonathan Goldstein is involved in footballing matters this transfer window, aswell as Petr Cech and even Marina Granovskia, who is offering her contacts to Boehly despite also departing from the club soon.
