Todd Boehly to put data at the heart of his “ Chelsea Revolution “ if he gets the club.

Todd Boehly will put data at the heart of Chelsea as his consortium looks to win the race to take over from long time owner Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea won every major trophy under Abramovich. Boehly feels he can help them continue to do the same.

We will never know for sure what will occur especially in the transfer market with a new owner in charge until we are actually in that position, however every noise and source that is hearing something about Todd Boehly is giving a positive outlook. Ambitious but cautious with money, the love and appreciation for fans, the recognition for how big football is, and most importantly, the need to win.

It’s stated in The Evening Standard by credible writer James Robson that Todd Boehly will put data at the heart of his revolution at Chelsea, Boehly has employed Data fanatic and lifelong Chelsea fan Daniel Finkelstein as part of his non executive board should he be the winning bidder, so you can safely assume that Daniel would provide critical analysis and planned out signings that many fans feel hasn’t happened over the past years, it’s quite evident that even in Chelsea’s current team, their are a mixture of players who suit different systems and styles of play, it’s not to say Tuchel hasn’t been tactically flexible tho..

Tuchel has experimented with many different formations including 4-2-2-2 which was claimed by many fans of Timo Werner would get the best out of him, however quite the opposite happened and Timo is just 1 example of a recent signing that was not properly scouted, you could use Hakim Ziyech as an example, yes, he has scored and assisted some big goals for Chelsea however the general feeling online is that there’s still uncertainty over his future, sometimes Ziyech looks lost in a 3-4-3 which Tuchel usually deploys, often leaning towards Mason Mount at RF instead.

And how could we forget Romelu Lukaku? Chelsea decided to smash £100m on the credited goal machine however he only has 5 league goals so far this season, there was public outrage just a few months ago when Romelu did an interview behind the clubs back which was heavily in support of inter Milan, their fans and his former strike partner Lautaro Martinez. As a long time fan of Lukaku, I was expecting a ruthless striker, someone who made those daring, powerful runs at the defender, someone who demanded respect through his performances, someone who got the team by the scruff of the neck and acted like a leader given his age and experience alongside the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva, it’s felt like anything but that thus far.

Kai Havertz has put in consistent performances at ST which has led to Lukaku being benched a lot in recent matches.

So perhaps Todd Boehly alongside Daniel Finkelstein and whatever board members are in charge accompanied by the assistance of coach Thomas Tuchel could improve the ratio of hit / miss as far as Chelsea signings are concerned. It is however hard to gauge just how much value a signing has given even for the likes of Timo Werner who assisted Hakim Ziyech against Atletico Madrid and scored against Real Madrid last year on route to winning the Chelsea league. Werner was also credited for a decoy run that attracted Manchester City defenders towards him and took attention away from the champions league final winner Kai Havertz as Mason Mount slotted a perfectly timed ball through the City midfield and defence.

Chelsea need keep Tuchel for as many years as possible and sign players that are suited to him and his way of playing football and then make sure the next manager also shares a similar philosophy so the signings can be worthwhile, not only for 1 manager.

Bohely seems like the best candidates out of the ones shortlisted, his La Dodgers team are very competitive season on season and multiple Dodgers fans have told me privately he has been integral to the club, even though he only holds a 20% ownership stake.

In The Athletic today they published some news about what Todd Boehly’s outlook would be :

“ Sources talk about the Todd Boehly consortium running Chelsea similarly to how FSG operates at Liverpool. FSG still makes major transfers, but works far more within the club’s means. Boehly is not trying to buy the club to take it backwards, though. “

( The Athletic UK )

This should calm down fears that fans might have over Boehly coming in to make money and not re invest, from the outside, it does not appear he is that type of character and takes this approach to Sport, in an interview taking about potential investment in Football in 2019, Todd Boehly outlined that it’s the biggest sport in the world and the ultimate goal is to win.

It remains to be seen if Todd Boehly’s group will win the race, it seems that their most serious competition comes from The Ricketts Family and Ken Griffin, Chelsea content creators, Instagram and Twitter accounts today came together and announced a protest against their potential ownership. 3 official posters were released across social media inviting fans to come to Stamford Bridge at 12PM on Saturday, the day of Chelsea’s return to league action against Brentford.

Fan group “ We are the Shed “ over on Twitter are bringing a banner into the ground to hold above the crowd in the shed end as the players emerge, their aim is not to do a protest outside the ground but to get the camera’s from multiple broadcasting stations to capture their banner.

If both the protest outside the ground and the banner have an impact, this would pour more pressure on the decision makers of the sale. It’s understood both the board and Raine will have a say, it’s unclear if Roman Abramovich will still have the final decision, he is focused on more peace talks at the moment between Ukraine and Russia as the war goes in.
