Reliable Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella was on The Italian Football Podcast available on Patreon and mentioned an interesting back-room story about the Tuchel vs Lukaku relationship.
“Somebody told me once that Tuchel and Lukaku were chatting watching a Spurs match, Tuchel then said “There’s your daddy” about Antonio Conte as a joke, it did not go down well with Lukaku.”
It’s interesting to see that the manager was comfortable enough to make a joke like that with the player, but after spending close to £100M on Lukaku and loaning him out after just 1 season, it tells you all you need to know about how that relationship worked out.
Romelu Lukaku’s loan move is now complete after passing his medical today, Chelsea will receive 7m loan fee plus 3.5m add ons if Inter Milan win the title next season.
It is widely expected that Chelsea and Lukaku will re negotiate next season for another season long loan or a potential purchase once Inter are more free of financial constraints.
