Tuchel hails Ziyech as Chelsea claim third win in three weeks over Tottenham

Chelsea beat Tottenham for the third time in three weeks after claiming a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

After a goalless first-half, Hakim Ziyech broke the deadlock within two minutes of the restart.

The Moroccan winger curled a superb shot into the top corner from 20 yards after receiving the ball from Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The hosts doubled their lead only eight minutes later when Thiago Silva powered home a header from Mason Mount’s free-kick.

Spurs were annoyed when they thought they had broken the deadlock through Harry Kane.

However, the goal was ruled out as the England striker was adjudged to have pushed Silva to the ground before slotting past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

It is Tottenham’s first loss in the Premier League under Antonio Conte’s management, which leaves the club two points off fourth-placed Manchester United, but they possess two games in hand.

Chelsea meanwhile continue their dominance over their London rivals, having beat them over two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Speaking after the game, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel singled out Ziyech for praise after his excellent performance.

“It was one of his best matches today because he was very reliable,” Tuchel said. “It was also maybe his best position to be on the wing. We had the wide position on the right wing, that position does not normally exist in that particular manner when we play 3-4-3, it is more of a wing back.

“Maybe we can think about doing this. It was good because it gave him the opportunity to take risks where it was possible to take risks. He was very reliable on the ball in moments where it is necessary.

“The work rate was always outstanding. You can always rely on him on work rate and counter-pressing. So yes, well done and he needs to keep on going like everyone else.”
