Roman Abramovich is taking a step back from Chelsea, handing temporary responsibility to the Chelsea foundation trustees which include Emma Hayes and Bruce Buck.
Why is there Uncertainty around Abramovich?
The current war between Russia and Ukraine has led UK MP’s and Boris Johnson to propose and deliver out sanctions to Russian Oligarchs who have ties with Vladimir Putin.
Labour Mp Chris Bryant, has stated that Abramovich is unfit to own Chelsea, and that he should not be allowed in the country or be allowed to open a football club.
Abramovich has repeatedly denied over the years involvement with Putin, and he was not on the initial list of 100 to be sanctioned by Boris Johnson.
In order for Abramovich to sell, it would have to take atleast £3bn in my opinion, this is because Abramovich has loaned £1.514bn since his takeover and has never asked for it back, 1) because he loves Chelsea and 2) Chelsea would effectively go bust if he wants to make these demands.
Abramovich refused all takeover bids in 2019, one which was reported to be worth $3bn from American Todd Boehley.
