Van Ginkel suffered a potentially serious knee problem early in the 2-0 third-round win and was replaced by Ramires, who was also taken off at half-time with injury – which he picked midway through the first half.
Marco van Ginkel injury seems to be very serious, but isn’t yet confirmed. The British papers this morning have been reporting, Marco van Ginkel has suffered a cruciate ligament injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season or at least out for the best part of the footballing season.
Steve Holland on Van Ginkel’s injury: “It’s too early to say, but it doesn’t look good for Marco.
‘We’ll have to wait for the results of the scan, but we have at least two casualties from this evening.”
Van Ginkel returned to London with the team and will have a scan at the club’s Cobham training center today.
The other casualty was yesterday’s goal scorer Ramires.
Steve Holland added: “Ramires had to go off with a muscular injury at the top of the hip in the gluteal area which was causing more discomfort as he tried to run it off.
“He’ll be a major doubt for the Tottenham game at the weekend. They’re the two major disappointments of the evening.”
Ramires injury comes as an major blow for Jose, as Chelsea face Tottenham this weekend.
