What We Learned :

1. Luiz in a permanent midfield role

2. Chelsea’s best chance at silverware

3. Perfect starting 11 was chosen.

4. Torres regains his awkward romance with the Europa League

1. Luiz in a permanent midfield role

Luiz was dominant in midfield. He got himself in front of every ball, defended well, attacked whenever he could, played brilliant through balls, made his physical presence known in the center of the park and scored an absolute scorcher. If we take in the fact that Mourinho is indeed making a return to the English Premier League and at Chelsea, he would make the best use of Luiz in the holding midfield area. The unpredictability and flair offered by the Brazilian is unmatched to any in the present Chelsea squad. Do the PlayStation minions hiding in his locks of hair still control him Mr. Neville?

2. Chelsea’s best chance at silverware

.. or to rephrase it, Chelsea’s only chance at silverware this season. Calling this year a bitter disappointment, would be an understatement. However Chelsea can take the pride of knowing that they’re once again the only English club in Europe for the second consecutive year. Winning Europa would make Chelsea one of the handful of clubs to have won all the European competitions in offer. This along with a Champions League spot could make it a memorable year.

3. Perfect starting 11 was chosen

Credit where it is due, Rafael Benitez was spot on with his starting 11. He picked the players with the United game on the back of his head. Mata, Oscar and Terry were all rested for the crunch game against the English champions on Sunday. Cole was forced to be rested as well, after racking up a suspension in the first leg of the Europa semi-final. Moreover he substituted the eccentric Luiz when the game was settled with a 3-1 scoreline. This was to prevent Luiz from picking up another yellow card which would rule him out of the finals.

4. Torres regains his awkward romance with the Europa League

Torres did have a rather disappointing game against Basel in Switzerland, however he equalized once again for Chelsea with another goal to his tally in Europa. 20 goals for the Spaniard this season, but he has been a vital cog in Chelsea’s progress through this particular tournament. A goal in the final would do wonders to his confidence, something he desperately needs. With Mourinho coming in next season, Torres does look like he will depart from the West London outfit this summer. But, what if the Special One, changes his fortune? If no one can, Jose Mourinho can.

Other Points :

1. Marko Marin looks extinct

2. Moses has been really good over the two legs

  1. First 45mins was awful..thankfully, we made amends in the 2nd half..all focus should be shifted to the united game this sunday…

  2. First half we looked jaded and tired, came out in the second half all guns balzing. Terry must of given the team talk.

  3. Moses was my man of the match. Almost got his 1st goal when Lampard should have scored, finishing his better chance very well and providing some potential assist that were wasted. His first touch was a joy to behold.

  4. U keep making d same mistake. Torres is on 21 goals so far.

  5. good of you xtian you really watched the match. The person who write this won’t give him a kudos, i don’t know whether he only watched the highlight.

  6. he deserve more praises like that of your favourite in the team, he did not only give some assist which was wasted. He make covers for ryan and also do some amazing mackings not like Rami who exposed Azpi everytime to danger. He deserved to be recommended and not in that way you put it.

    • Not my favorite. you’re taking things out of proportion. Luiz had a very good game. so did Moses. but Hazard was probably the best on the field that night. There were more important points to cover than just him.

      • Would probably agree with you except for the notion that Moses was not amongst the most important points.

  7. just want to remind the Obi Mikel followers to look carefully what a defensive mid can do.Coming from a central defender makes it even more embarlrassing the seven years Mikel waisted in midfield passing the ball back and sideways. Hopefully for those who really understand football will start thinking how much Chelsea has suffered playing with mikel in that position and what they could have achieved if a proper footballer was playing there for 7years. David has done more in few games in that position then Mikel in 7. perhaps mikel should be the defender lol

      1, embarrassing not embarlrassing
      2, wasted not waisted
3, mikel is more defensive minded where as luiz is just…… LUIZ
4, both are different players and good for certain playing style and formation
5, try to use the little brain of yours before commenting.

      • First of all english is not my first language. Can you write portuguese spanish as good as I do English? I dont think so!! Embarrassing was a mistake of typing as if you had any brains you could have easily picked up by the way I wrote the rest of the word it wouldn’t have made sense put a l or in there. Wasted I give it to you. You would have made more mistakes than one writing a language that you didn’t grew up with.

i agree with you, he should rather be a defender than playing at the
      mid field

  8. Reblogged this on eobule.

  9. Chelsea now find themselves in Amsterdam.haven, after destroying FC Basel in the Europa league semi finals.GOGO HIGH CHELSEA.

  10. Next game if Mikel performs well we will all say he is good together with Rami in the pivot role

  11. stop the baseless comparism between Mikel and Luiz because they have different playing styles and thats it. But thumbs up to Rafa for selecting a solid and compact team, while resting certain players for the United game. KTBFF

  12. Eduardo Grajales

well done of blues, but I think Marko MArin need a new oportunity, he’s a wonderfull player.

  13. Luiz is a bit more direct which I like and though his pass completion rate and final balls could be awful sometimes, he often produces magic to help you forget those errors. Mikel on the other hand reminds me of the typical Barcelona against Bayern, maybe like Xavi when he is out of form. Just keeping it short and simple with no adventure.
