What We Learned: Champions league semi-finalists and a miraculous night yet again at the Bridge!

Soccer - UEFA Champions League - Quarter Final - Second Leg - Chelsea v Paris Saint-Germain - Stamford Bridge

The Blues came from behind in aggregate to beat PSG 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in another miracle night in SW6. The fans and the players alike were convinced that nothing was going to stop us if we believed and fought with heart as Jose Mourinho said before the game. And that was the case as the Special One master minded another great come back for Chelsea in the champions league quarters like in 2 years ago against Napoli.

Also, after the remaining ties in the competition, we have learned the four semi-finalists this year in the form of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and none other than CHELSEA. The draw for the semi-finals were made on Friday and we will face Atletico Madrid in the semi-final with the second leg at home.

Now, let’s look at the main things we learned from the mid week champions league ties and our rampant win against the odds against PSG.

PATIENCE PAYS:

The Blues were daunted by Eden Hazard’s early injury but kept pushing hard on to scoring against a resilient PSG who were trying to hold their aggregate lead rather than attack and try to make Chelsea pay. But, the players mentality was key in this moments as we finally broke the dead lock through Andre Schurrle in the 31 minutes ironically the same minute we scored the first against Napoli in that magical night at the bridge in 2012. And finally, Demba Ba the unlikely hero of all people scored the winning and crucial 2nd goal to help us advance to the semi finals of the competition through away goals rule.

THE PLAYERS COVERED EVERY BLADE OF GRASS:

The players were fully committed to the task and were the superior of the two sides through their hard work and perseverance. Jose Mourinho wanted that kind of performance in this game and that’s what he got from each of his players. here is a quote from Jose after the game…

They worked like animals my midfield, David Luiz is a monster.’ -Jose Mourinho

ATLETICO WAITS PLUS COURTOIS ALLOWED TO PLAY:

The draw could not have been tougher when it comes to facing a team with spirit and high work rate as ourselves. But, it’s also the first time, Diego Simeone’s surprise package face a team that matches their intensity with a coach that knows how to win. If beating Barcelona in the previous round makes them think they are the favorites, they have thought wrong because Chelsea are on a whole another level and Jose Mourinho had predicted earlier this season that this Barcelona is the worst in long years even though they eliminated Man City from the last 16.

Now, we can’t wait to continue on winning ways in the premier league today against Swansea and we must eagerly await the clash against Atletico in the champions with excitement and it would be amazing to see how our own Thibaut Courtois would fare against his parent club since Ron Gourlay confirmed he will have to play should Atletico select him despite his contract stating how the Spaniards would have to pay up 3m pound per appearance against his parent club.

Thanks for reading and let us know what you think!! KTBFFH

I learnt was Mourinho’s geniusity in tactics variation. Underestimating Chelsea at your peril is risky. Never give up mentality and self-belief in this team.

Atl. Madrid is a dangerous team we should be careful not quite long they thrashed us 4-1 in super cup. I learnt our young keeper on loan at Ath. Madrid will play against us coincidentally. It will be tougher matches.

Courtois has conceded goals before, cfc should attack and definetely they will get 2 goals away.

pls there is something that i want to add now adays it seems the WHAT WE LEARNED does not come early as it used to come just after the games, so try and work on that for us coz we really love it. Blues for Life

I think that our best player in that match was David Luiz!!!! Like Mou said, he was a monster!!!! KTBFFH!!

  7. Great game and all three subs did amazing, Great work with your site and the informative analysis. One thing I think you ease up on is criticising the strikers. Its been a constant feature in your right ups, do you really think those guys don’t know how to score goals? Or aren’t trying hard enough? We are all fans and supporters, if their jobs were so easy to do, any random tom off the street would be scoring goals for fun, Remember even though they are world class stars, they also human, players, fathers, husbands, role models. Time to show them some respect. Chelsea’s season is still on track so look at the positives in especially those three gentlemen. Thanks!
