Chelsea piled the pressure on the chasing pack with a 2-0 win over Hull City at the KC Stadium, with City and Arsenal not playing until Sunday and Monday respectively Jose’s men have done what they were supposed to do and sit pretty on top of the league. Chelsea courtesy a fine goal from Eden Hazard opened the scoring in the 56th minute and from that moment on it was all Chelsea. Hull early on had a few chances but after Chelsea went ahead there was no way back for the tigers.
Willian had a huge impact and found pockets of space in the Tigers defense. Oscar was denied two clear cut opportunities but the second goal did came, late on when Torres coolly slotted home.
What we learned:
Cech has yet another record in the bag:
Petr Cech had yet another clean sheet and has now become Chelsea’s all time leader in Clean Sheets. 209 is the number and Cech is showing no signs of taking a break. What a servant he has been to the club. A proper legend. Courtois will have to do a lot to reach this mark.
Cech is only the second goalkeeper in the BPL to keep 150 clean sheets. Only ahead of him is David James with 169. Surely a record Cech will be looking to break.
Jose after the game had this to say about the legendary Czech Goalkeeper:
“Cech is almost 10 years at the top. Now he’s beaten Bonetti’s record & next year probably breaks the Premier League record.”
Hazard continues his brilliant form for Chelsea:
Hazard has continued his blistering form lately and today again he was the one who produced a moment of brilliance to put Chelsea ahead. It took Eden Hazard 31 games to score 9 goals in the Premier League last season for Chelsea. He’s managed it in just 21 games this season.
Hazard’s form recently has been absolutely fantastic not only in attacking sense but the way he has worked his socks off defensively. In his last eight BPL appearance, Eden Hazard has been involved in 8 goals (five goals and 3 assists) and he can only get better.
Jose after the match was full of appreciation for Eden. He said:
“Every manager wants players like him. You are watching a much more mature player with much more responsibility now.”
“For Hazard to win the man of the match for the third consecutive game is something nice.”
Cech also appreciated what Eden has brought to the team. he said:
“If he keeps on working, Eden Hazard can become one of the greatest players.”
Hazard while talking about the rumors surrounding him and PSG had this to say:
“I (want to) keep on going for a long time”
Torres among the scorers again:
Taking nothing away from him it was a very cool finish, he had been working hard all game and it did pay off in the end. Fernando Torres has scored in back-to-back Premier League appearances for the first time since December 2012. It’s a good sign really and hope he can build on that. He is working hard and it’s quite evident still we can’t really rely on him alone and we’d be needing the midfield to do the bulk of the scoring if we are to win anything this year but our main striker among the goals is a good sign.
Jose on the Chelsea strikers:
“Chelsea fans always support the strikers, which helps players in a difficult moment. Now Torres is enjoying his football.”
David Luiz is enjoying his role in Midfield:
David Luiz win 10 headed duels today, the entire Hull side won 16. He has been working his socks off in midfield tirelessly working around the defense and making the forward pass when needed.
David Luiz has made 16 effective clearances against Hull. The number is unreal, honestly. Also 4 interceptions, and 9 accurate long balls. A fantastic performance by the Brazilian, We’ll be seeing him more in the defensive midfield role it seems. He surely is loving it.
Willian once again with a solid performance:
We all expected Willian to take some time to settle in but he has been fantastic, an absolute live wire and in my opinion is the main reason why Mata is on the bench. The energy levels shown by Willian so far this season has been brilliant and today he did notch up an assist as he set up Fernando Torres who got the 2nd for Chelsea.
All in all a good performance. One thing worth mentioning is that we are solid defensively and with every passing game we are getting better and better. This is Mourinho’s Chelsea, Clinical and mighty efficient.
Can’t wait for the United game on the 19th, Bring it ON!
