What We Learned: On to the last Eight of the Champions League; Dominant performance!

Drogba return vs Chelsea

In Didier Drogba’s return to Stamford bridge with Galatasaray, his former side dominated and controlled the match for the whole 90 mins as the Turkish champions are eliminated from the champions league by Mourinho’s Chelsea. The second leg wasn’t as tight as it was expected to get as Jose Mourinho master planned a tactic to remain their star performers silent all night. Meanwhile, our star performers in big games in addition to almost every player in the starting 11 except Petr Cech (who was untested for most of the game) performed exceptionally well.

It’s a victory and a passage that sent huge relief under Mourinho’s view after last Saturday’s embarrassment at Villa park caused by Chris Foy’s horrific refereeing. With all the positives to take out from this game unlike the last outing against Aston Villa in the league, let’s take a look what this edition’s what we learned and the main points to take away from this win….

King Didier will always ‘remain in our hearts’:

King DIDI

As displayed beautifully by Chelsea fans at the Stamford Bridge, our legend will always remain in our hearts no matter where he plays or where he is at. His ovation when he made his way out of the tunnel was so immense and emotional to the Ivorian hit man. He didn’t score or cause any problems to our back line unluckily for him. But, the respect his former team mates have for him was so beautiful to see as he embraced with all the players after the final whistle. We surely won’t forget this epic return to the Bridge and we are sure he won’t forget this night as well.

As Mourinho said in his pre-match press-conference, we have not seen the last of Didier Drogba at Chelsea since ‘his destiny’ lies at Stamford bridge according to the Special one who surely knows a thing or two about happy returns 😉

Eden Hazard- Man of the Match and finally starred in a knock out stage of the Champions league!!

It is what Jose Mourinho has been saying when talking about the evolution of his young players especially that of Eden Hazard and Oscar. The two players just played their first 2nd leg knock out match in the Champions league and were two best performers in the Chelsea shirt of the night. Especially the Belgian has been a real revelation under Jose Mourinho this season as he already has double figure of goals in the premier league and he is helping his team win important big matches almost by himself.

His evolution will keep on growing and growing as he works more years with the Special one and the time is nearer and nearer before when we see Eden Hazard named best player in the world, winner of the Ball’n Dor!

Our back line is now unbeatable and kudos to Jose Mourinho for making as solid for any side to beat:

This seems like a little cliche for all Chelsea fans to say recently after the second half of the season but, its being evidently true after each passing match when the Blues back line and Petr Cech earn a clean sheet. This one makes it more impressive as they held on a treat from the likes of Drogba and Snieder to help the Blues advance to the next stages of the champions league. Gary Cahill’s second goal sent a huge relief from Mourinho as the Blues eased their efforts after wards by controlling the match and wrapping up the result.

But, the solidness of the back four is something that is entirely down to Mourinho because, who else from all the managers would have showed faith in Azpilicueta in the left back spot ahead of some one like Ashley Cole? Not any one probably. But, the Spaniard was rightfully the best Chelsea defender of the night by also combining some aggressive running forward and attacking in his game. Cahill and Terry were solid at the back and also played a key role in the second goal that was crucial for the result. And Ivanovic, unsurprisingly did fantastically well in defense even though he doesn’t combine the defensive and attacking job of his like Azpilicueta does on the other side of the field.

Samuel Eto’o is a match winner and has saved Mourinho many times this year:

Of all the three strikers we have at the moment, it was the Cameroonian who was undoubtedly the star of Mourinho’s team upfront. Eto’o yet again rose high in the highest of stages for Chelsea even though he isn’t unfamiliar with the prestigious European trophy as he is a 4 time winner as Mourinho mentioned. And his early opener against Galatasaray was as crucial as they come and it proves how much value he has in Jose Mourinho’s team.

Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed reading. And we again apologize for a late publication of What We Learned and we will get the issue fixed by the next match. Let us know your comments and KTBFFH!!

  1. Hazard needs to testing the goal keepers from distance not only assist but also scoring

So true! He is becoming slightly predictable, and defenses seem to cope better with his cut backs and skills. If he takes accurate long shots like Lampard used, the defense will have one more problem to deal with, with the possibility that it could open up space for Oscar, willian, and Et’to 🙂

  2. Yea Mou has done alot of good to this team bringing our faith back as title contenders this, while we have been struggling jax for top 4 some 3/4 yrs back, tanx to boss of all bosses he knws what he does, he’s somtyms wrong buh that happen to anyone u cnt be right all the tym. He made Aspiliqueta like the 3 we hv and aspi is doing it well.whenever he benches a player wether good or bad, u will see people tlking trash buh in reality he gets it ryt. Casilas, Mata, nd so on, ancheloti is still not using him, nd our best player Mata too has not been in pretty good form, he’s the man who doesn’t play his game base on past glories or what a player has done for the club, he wouldn’t hv benched Ashley Cole, and even doin that is bullshit, we tlk of current form someone will be tlking our best player 4 2yrs so what. People will continue hatin him coz he says the truth, even the FA is beeing partial. He always delivers bcoz he knws the ryt players for the job.
Those who complains about Schurle not playin, that guy was fantastic durin the start of the season buh now he keeps running lyk a horse no energy, his dribbling skils are all gone, somtin is wrng wid him.it is only this coache who bought Mikel nd hv seen that he has been our problem in midfield for those yrs even though he helped us more at tyms and sideline him, yes mou knows best, buh somone will say he’s stubborn.

  3. Cfc_obsessed

You ll never see Neri Abayomi here this time. No 1 glory hunter fans i ve ever seen in my life

  4. Gud performance from all our players except 4 one of my favourite cfc player ramires who was on & off the game, but stil always a willing runner.i look up 2 chelsea vs r.madrid in the quarter finals.up jose,up al cfc fans.

  5. I don’t want tomorrow drawing with RM. Madrid playing style not suit to us. I hate this draw. Good chance to blue…

    • We always find real madrid more difficult that most other top teams. I believe that it would be better to be drawn against dortmund, man u, psg, or even barca

  6. i realy fancy blues winning against stronger oposition than against atlethico, bvb or psg.i want a team with the favourite tag,& they are real, barca & bayern.among this 3 i would like us 2 face real.madrid.remember if u must win the ucl u must beat the best & jose knew them inside out.cfc vs real
    barca vs bayern
    bvb vs united
    psg vs atletico.daz my predictn.

  7. I still maintain my point, there are people who have favourite players and hated players. When Mou uses they favourite players, win or lose they back him, but when he uses they hated players, win or lose they will not only can him a coach that knows nothing, they will also vilify the hated players even if he played just 3 mins. Ramirez have been a torn in the flesh lately and many don’t say much about his performance. I bet had it been if was Mikel…GOSH! Everyone will pull a digger to stab him! Mou still has a long way to go. He need to talk to Hazard: dribble with the sole aim of taking away an opponent; give that deadly pass or take that direct shot on goal, like CR7 and Messi. Matic, compose yourself when you get the ball. Don’t just kick the ball. We have future Ballon d’or winners not just Hazard! As for as this present chelsea squad is concern most: if properly managed are candidates! Quote me wrong if you dare! Ktbffh

Honestly seen ramires playing like this is so annoying. I only ve problem wit his passes, though his work rate cant be overlooked. Its unusual of him. He played badly when he first came to cfc but at times goes, he adapted. Honestly i prefer having ramires on the field tackling and marking. U cant compare him to mikel, mikel is just mikel, i always predict hw he plays every match. A gud player no doubt but stagnant development. Honestly, i didnt miss him. Do u?

      • No where do u miss Mikel? Ramirez play awfully wen it comes to the final passes but can solely decide the game from midfield.he can Never be compared to Mikel though

  8. Martin, Norway.

    We did well generally.

  9. mikel has the potential 2 be better than ramires, but lacks mobility.his passing is better, but rami’s workrate is great & most time decides matches.am a fan of mikel, but he has let me down by his recent slugish movement in the field of play 4 cfc,but he is a field marshal when playn 4 nigeria.when wil the nigerian mikel turnup 4 cfc? i tink jose should give more playn time or evem try him at #10,but this isnt the time 4 trial & error.ktbffh.

THE NIGERIA MIKEL WILL TURN UP FOR CHELSEA FC WHEN THE COACH GIVES HIM THAT FREEDOM HE ENJOYS PLAYING FOR HIS NATIONAL TEAM. HE IS NOT A NATURAL DMF, HE WAS CONVERTED. I HEARD INTER WANTS HIM. I PRAY HE GOES TO A TEAM WHERE HE CAN BE HIMSELF, PLAY HIS NATURAL GAME AND BE HAPPY. I BET YOU…HE’LL NOT BE CELEBRATED OR REMEMBERED WHEN HE LEAVES. ALREADY THE LIKES OF GABBY AMD EMILE 10 HAVE MADE THEIR THOUGHTS ON HIM KNOWN. WHEN MATIC BEGINS TO HAVE HIS OFF MOMENTS…I WILL LOOK AND SMH, NOT AT HIM BUT TO THOSE WHO LOVE HIM BECAUSE THEY HATE MIKEL! PLAYERS HAVE THEIR OFF MOMENTS, WHICH COULD TAKE A LONG TIME< WHEN THAT HAPPENS, WE OWE IT TO THEM TO SUPPORT THEM (TORRES). WE DRAW PSG. I HAVE A STRONG GUT WE WILL DEFEAT THEM AND REACH THE SEMI-FINAL! KTBFFH!!!
