A good shot-stopper is hard to find, they are not readily available. For the same reason, replacing a good GK is even harder. Generally GKs provide a long-term service to the team. Unlike other players, they hardly get injured. So a team has usually one good GK and some decent options as back-ups. When the number one choice leaves, a huge void is created. We are very lucky that we have Cech as our No.1 in Chelsea for a long time, and undoubtedly he is one of the best in the world. But he will not remain forever, someday he has to go(retire, i mean). We all know that his successor will be Belgium international Courtois, who is now on loan at Atletico Madrid. And his turbulent performances in La Liga indicate that he is almost ready to compete with Cech for No.1 position. Those who wanna know how good really he is, just watch Copa Del Rey final(Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid) highlights. He made some incredible saves in this match, against one of the best teams in the world. Beside this, he kept 20 clean sheets in La Liga this season, which is second to none. So there is nothing to worry about, Cech’s gloves will be given to a reliable man. We just need a proper plan to keep him improving.
Many can argue that he is ready for the first team, but as long as we have Cech as our No.1, Courtois can’t be able to break into the first team. So he has to wait. Cech signed a contract extension of 4 years and it is believed that he will continue his career till 2016 Euro at least. So we may expect three or four more seasons from him. Courtois is too good to warm the bench, it also hampers his improvement. On the other hand Cech doesn’t deserve the bench role, he achieved a lot, gave us many moments of rejoice(I never forget his amazing performances in last season UCL, Specially two semifinals vs Barcelona & the final against Bayern) and he is one of the bests in this position(IMO second to Casillas). So here a problem arises where he will be? I think(my personal opinion, you can disagree) he should be joined in our squad at the last season of Cech, or the season before the last. In the meantime, loaning him to good teams who play highest level of competitive football(top European leagues & UCL or Europa) will certainly improve him. During the loan spell, he can play regular first team football, which we can’t offer him. As the FIFA World Cup is going to take place in the next year, regular first team football secures his place in the national team. He may spend another season or two at Atletico Madrid. Then he should join(on loan, of course) to a PL team. As the playing style of PL is different from La Liga, it takes some time to adapt to the PL. A loan spell in a PL team will make him better. In the meantime, Jamal Blackman and others will cover Cech.
After completing loan spells successfully, he will be more mature and confident. Then he should join with us. He can learn from Cech a lot and share first team opportunity with him. When Cech retires, he will be our No.1, and i’m sure he can succeed Cech perfectly. He will make an era of his own.

problem is after a few years of being out on loan courtois might want to stay at madrid perm=namently which would be a disaster we can’t afford to lose him. Irritating thig is that cech is only 31 good few seasons left while we got the best young keeper in the world out on loan. Give cech 1 more season then start to introduce coutois jsut like spurs did with friedal and lloris

Yes, we can’t afford to lose him. But the problem is Courtois doesn’t want to be a bench warmer, he want regular game-time, which assures his place in national team in the upcoming world cup. I believe this season will be the his last season at Athletico Madrid. Then he will join with us or other PL team.
One more season on loan to AM, one season on loan to EPL team, one season alternating with Cech (with more starts if he outplays Cech), and then take over as the full-time starter with Cech as mentor.

He will not want to come back if he is kept loaning out.. When we bought Cech, we already had a world class GK in Cudicini.. but Cech proved to be a revelation and became our number one. My opinion is give Courtois a yr loan in the PL. Next season let him compete with Cech.
I believe he understands the situation………….he desperately wants to play for Athletico Madrid only for one reason- regular game-time which ensures his place in the national team in the upcoming World Cup…….after the world cup, he may accept the bench role at Chelsea.
He may understand the situation now. .. but we cant say the same in two years time.. I do believe 2014 he shud compete with Cech and if he becomes no.1, we will have a gr8 backup in Cech and Blackman

If Cech retires soon………….i will be very surprised…………his form indicates that he can easily continue his career for 3-4 years.

Valdes just announced that he is leaving Barca. Maybe we should offer Barca a loan deal for Courtois, because frankly, Pinto (Barca’s 2nd GK) is shite, and there aren’t many available world class GK. If accepted, we’ll have our next Cech playing for “the best team in the world”. there can’t be a better opportunity for him to learn and improve.
Loaning Courtois to Barca………………..no, no mate………..it is very risky…………we can’t able to return him to stamford bridge then…………….and Valdes will stay one more season.
i disagree why can’t he play regular football at chelsea if we keep loaning him out he may not want to come back because he will be a regular at madrid why leave madrid then when he would be so accustomed to playing there, i don’t see why we can’t use him starting this coming season cech doesn’t have to play every game why can’t he play regular with chelsea, we have the fa cup,league cup, champions league and the premier league why does cech have to play all those games, the season that just ended we played about 60 games who knows how much games we will play in the coming season and it would be good to give cech a rest, and we aren’t looking at the fact that if anything should happen to cech we don’t have a proper backup keeper at all and it is a risky thing we have been doing for many seasons, he should come home and we play more than enough games that he can play regularly, cech doesn’t have to start in all, other teams make use of their young talent we are the only ones who seem not to do the same all we do is ship them off and sell them and regret it look at matic who we included in the david luiz sale now he is just the kind of player we need in our midfield, we need to use our youngsters
Courtois may come the season after next, not next season, because i don’t think he takes the risk of playing a maximum total of 20-25 matches just before the World Cup(he expressed his high desire to stay at Athletico Madrid publicly) whereas in Atheletico Madrid he can easily play 40-45 matches. If he stays there for another season, it will be very helpful for his development also, he will taste the UCL matches……………it helps him a lot……………….we may bring him back directly from Athletico after the next season……………..and i believe he will return to us happily then.
