WILLIAN – REAPING REWARDS.

Back in the summer many came up with absurdly, mythical claims questioning Chelsea’s requirement of Willian, stating that the only reason we signed him was to get one over our arch rivals, Tottenham. Incredibly everyone chose to overlook the wealth of attacking talent at his disposal rather futilely count the numbers available options.

In a space of 6 months Willian found himself in the midst of two big money transfers from Shakhtar Donetsk to Russian spenders, Anzhi Makhachkala to Londoners, Chelsea.
Amongst all this movement Chelsea received a beat and jaded Willian. Far from the enthusiastic, energetic and sharp one formerly of Shakhtar.

Its was only a matter of time before Willian hit the ground running in England, settling into a new city, a new life amongst new teammates at a new club. Specific training methods soon placed Willian on the same wavelength as the rest.
Weeks after signing for Chelsea, Willian made his Chelsea debut against FC Basel in a Champions League group stage match which resulted in defeat.
Two game weeks later Willian made his Premier League debut against Norwich, scoring with a well finished effort & endearing himself to the Chelsea faithful.

With uncertainty surrounding Juan Mata’s future at the club, Willian’s opportunities grew helping him cement his spot amongst the Starting XI. Resulting in a new and impeccable bond between Hazard – Oscar – Willian being formed.
Furthermore he’s gone on a run of impressive displays, scoring against Southampton and Stoke City.

Willian’s exhibited his true quality proving to be a versatile attacking midfielder. His movement off the ball is cherishable, always looking to run in behind the defenders when off the ball, providing an effective outlet to his team-mates around with his’s explosive pace. Furthermore, Willian’s added more flair to the team with his direct running and dribbling. He enjoys taking on defenders and is usually someone who makes things click. The way he drifts inside is reminiscent of Eden Hazard – Holding the ball in wide areas, mesmerizing opponents with quick feet, and cutting inside. Creating genuine goal-scoring chances has always been amongst his forte and he hasn’t failed. On the other hand his goal-scoring ability still remains one he’s yet to showcase entirely at Chelsea.

Summing it up, Willian’s been expressive player from whom we have benefited a lot. His versatility has been of bigger advantage. Moreover he’s a player Mourinho loves and puts faith in.
